Unfortunately, I feel the need to write this review something I’ve never done before. I’ve never left a bad review, but I truly believe it’s necessary this time. I absolutely loved this restaurant the first time I came. Just like today, I came with my boyfriend, and we had such a great time! Our waitress back then was super friendly and attentive. Today, we came back expecting the same great service we had last time. At first, everything seemed promising. The hostess was very kind and even sat us at the same table we had before, which made me excited. Sadly, we were assigned to a server named AndrĂ©s, and honestly, words fall short to describe how terrible the service was. First, both my boyfriend and I are servers ourselves, so we understand what good service looks like. AndrĂ©s approached our table in a rush, didn’t introduce himself, and simply asked if we wanted something to drink. My boyfriend asked for a lemonade, and the server just said, “We don’t have any,” with no apology or attempt to offer an alternative nothing. So, he just got water. I ordered a rosĂ© sangria, which was delicious. When it came time to order food, my boyfriend and I weren’t sure if we had ordered the molcajete for two or three people during our last visit, so we asked for a bit of guidance. His response was a careless, “If you’re not that hungry, get the small one.” We looked at each other in disbelief and just went with the smaller size. After that, the server never came back to check on us. We felt like we had completely disappeared just another piece of the decor. It was frustrating because when our dish arrived, it was clear we’d need to order something else to be full, but we couldn’t
he was too busy talking about haircuts at the bar. I usually order up to three drinks when I go out to eat, but I couldn’t get a second one because he never checked on us. My boyfriend wanted churros, and that didn’t happen either, again because of the lack of service. He walked past our table multiple times without even asking if we wanted more water, dessert, or anything at all. We were so upset that we decided to just pay and head to Real Tacos instead, where the service was amazing and the drinks were fantastic. It’s important to mention that the restaurant was nearly empty just one table inside and maybe three outside. For a team of three servers, that should’ve been more than manageable. Honestly, it felt like we were treated this way because he assumed we wouldn’t tip well since we’re also Latino. For the record, I always tip at least 25% or more because I understand what it’s like to work in this industry. But this was the first time I ever asked my boyfriend not to leave a tip because it was truly undeserved. We ended up leaving just $5 for taking our order and that’s it. I truly hope management takes this into account and is more selective when hiring servers. The food here is excellent, and the place is beautiful, but bad service can completely ruin the experience.

Was so excited to try this place! First off the place is beautiful, super classy, it was nice getting a vibe like this without having to travel 40min plus (without traffic) outside of Lawrenceville to get it. We started with their shared plate “Sopes” it was AMAZING, a definite MUST TRY! Their masa for these items and tortillas for their dishes all seem to be homemade, such a nice treat from market bought corn tortillas and the blue corn was a nice difference. We chose this item with their Barbacoa which was so flavorful! I ventured out and got their Chicken Mole, which I was a little bit leary to get because most chicken breast I order from restaurants it is usually over cooked and dry, but I was mostly curious about the Mole, which my grandma used to make. I am more familiar with a little bit sweeter Mole than what this restaurant offered but I still really enjoyed this sauce. You could taste the red chilies and nuts in this sauce and you could even taste the time and effort they took to make it, it’s was rich and SO yummy and flavorful, even though it was not like the one I had growing up it was still very good, something you will not taste in any other Mexican restaurant around here. They use the same sauce in their enchiladas and use homemade tortillas for the enchiladas as well, so they are a little thicker than all these other “Mexican” restaurants but that was a win for us. It was quality food for sure! And OMG, they’re refried black beans
there is only one other place that has good black beans and that’s De Floridian but these refried black beans were over the top flavorful! Their Mexican rice was not as flavorful but if you’re eating it with the beans it doesn’t matter, if you’re eating the rice alone it was a little blah. In the end I did feel like the chicken was a little dry but the sauce was so good and thank goodness there was enough sauce for me to kinda over look that and same with the chicken enchiladas, the sauce and the tortilla kinda compensated for the dryness. Mind you this was their first week of business so I’m sure they are still working out the kinks. I will DEFINITELY go back and venture new items on the menu, most likely something that uses their Barbacoa. Btw did I mention they don’t carry sweet tea !? I was a little caught off guard about that but also impressed 😊 and their Spicy Mamsita Drink was also on point (real squeezed juices and tequila)

Stellar Restaurant Alert 📱: It's been a minute since I've posted a review of a restaurant. My husband and I have a weekly date night, but lately we've been cycling through several frequently-visited eateries, and I haven't been compelled to mention these places on repeat. Tonight changed things. We made up our minds that we were going to try a new spot. It's a restaurant nestled in the heart of downtown Lawrenceville, in the "Square". It is called, Anejo, and it's been open for several months. We first learned of it when they were doing a soft opening, and back then we decided to wait some time for them to get more established and find their groove before dining there. What we experienced tonight was fantastic!!! I'll start with how gorgeous the establishment is. Much care was put into the design and decor. There is plenty of sitting space, and it's well kept. The outdoor balcony space has a nice view of the downtown area. We sat at a table for two, mid restaurant. We had a new server who was on her first day of the job, and she served us well. The menu is somewhat small but has a great variety of dishes in which the cooks specialize. Every order is prepared fresh; nothing is made in advance...very favorable. There is an awesome drink menu too, with several "top shelf " options, but we didn't indulge in any beverages besides water this evening. We ordered a large Molcajete meal. We waited approximately 25 minutes for our meal to be served, and it was worth all the wait. The bowl was filled with steak, chicken breast, chorizo, shrimp, grilled Mexican cheese, cactus, onion bulbs, jalepeno peppers and the most flavorful green sauce I think I've ever had. It was accompanied by rice, refried black beans, and blue corn tortillas (8) on the side. My husband, Tommy was majorly impressed. I enjoyed seeing him enjoy everything so much. He doesn't easily venture from his usual favorites, and when he does so, I am always hopeful that he won't regret trying something new. He's already planning a return visit to Anejo. It is with a happy and full stomach that I recommend each and every one of you reading make the decision to visit Anejo and dine in.

If you have little ones - please read.

We have been waiting for Añejo to open up for quite sometime and were truly looking forward to trying it. What we experienced was not for the books and it was disappointing to say the least. We arrived at about 430pm on a Saturday 1/20, when it wasn’t busy whatsoever. I state the date and time because our server made our overall experience a negative one, prompting us to probably never go back again.

We waited a few minutes to be seated which we instantly were turned off by seeing that the restaurant was not busy. Not one employee greeted us even from afar. Once we were attended to, we requested a high chair for our daughter. The hostess ignored so we requested it again to our server who in turn told us all of the high chairs were being utilized. There were a total of TWO high chairs in the entire restaurant. Understanding that this is a new business, you should be cognizant that you are opening a location in a very family oriented anrea and should prepare accordingly. The mere fact there wasn’t sufficient high chairs for children was an immediate turn off for us but we were willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt.

For starters, the menu on the website does NOT match the menu they provide in person. If this is intentional, I suggest it is noted. Additionally, the dishes don’t have descriptions and we had to reference some of them on the website. I also would like to add, the prices for these dishes are outrageous for DTL. We can get authentic Mexican food at any surrounding restaurant for a fraction of the price and better service.

Our server displayed poor customer service. I’m all for checking in on customers, but the constant checking in after we consistently said we were good was pushy especially towards the end. She checked in on us about every 30 seconds to minute. She was the only server who kept coming to us with no other server bombarding the surrounding tables around us. We felt extremely rushed to leave even though I was still feeding my daughter. We felt targeted because we were the only ones with a child in the restaurant at that time. We finally got the check and as she approached our table, she loudly announces how much we owe before she even got to our table, which I believe is beyond unprofessional and tacky.

Clearly I can go on about how awful our experience was and I truly hope Añejo learns from these negative reviews how disappointed customers are by their prices, food and overall experiences and figure out a way to improve them. I truly had high hopes for this place and hope to see improvement within the next year, so we can maybe give it...
