My first time going but my kids (8,9) went for a field trip and loved it! So I thought, hey they have a magic show let's go! Easy to purchase tickets online, easy to check in, beautiful and clean. I'm not sure if it was over booked or what was going on with the seating, but it was just a mess, people were standing in the doorway trying to find enough seats for themselves and family members.
Maybe if they have you check in and pick seats then X them out like the movies do it would be less chaotic. So we finally went around and happened to spot three open seats, no problem. I feel like there should be a magic show for ages 6 and under and again for ages 6 and up. We had one kid throwing a tantrum so bad right next to my son he couldn't even hear, then he started running up and down the aisle right next to my son, while the one sitting next to me pretty much played soccer with my side, fought the mom the entire time to grab at my hair and earrings and screamed (Not the theatres fault)
It got to the point where my kids asked to leave, we could no longer see or hear the act and honestly were just ready to leave. The parking, although free is pretty bad. The open spot we found could get you in but it would be impossible to even open the door, even a little bit. I honestly do not think we will be back, or we may give it another try, I'm not sure yet, but it wasn't a great experience.
Also the guy at the beginning who went on for about 10 mins was a bit much for a kids event, we get it, we got the papers, maybe save it for the end of the show next time. (Coming from a teachers...
Read moreI recently revisited a live performance theater venue in historic Lawrenceville GA. This return visit was to attend A Christmas Carol and see the new theater’s new venue. The Aurora Theater had its beginnings from the purchase of a 100-year-old church that was transformed into a $7.5 million theatre complex. After a couple of years of construction that started before the pandemic, it expanded its footprint. Now totaling a 35 million dollar theater venue, the Aurora Theater is the anchor to the new Lawrenceville Performing Arts Center. It’s a beautiful, friendly, stately, yet comfortable performing arts venue.
Parking is abundant, well-lit, and apparently safe at one of the two complementary parking deck structures. There is ample free parking available on the streets as well. Plus, the theater is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and various green spaces. If you haven’t visited, then the town square is worth a trip in itself.
A performance of A Christmas Carol delivered by the talented Anthony Rodriguez was the highlight of venturing to the newly opened theater complex. It was an exhilarating one-man adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. As if the author narrated the performance, Anthony wove a story through his varied voices combined with his dynamic artistic pageantry. He truly brought notable characters and scenes from the cherished and familiar yet timeless Christmas story to life. It was quite the treat! Anthony’s delivered a brilliant, mesmerizing...
Read moreThe theater is nice and the performances are professionally produced. It is overall a very pleasant experience and we typically enjoy going to the shows. However, please be aware that all of their shows are NOT family friendly. We have been to two shows that included very adult themes. One of the shows we actually got up and left half way through because of the graphically depicted sexual portrayal. The most recent show was morally deficient and used a lot of unneeded profanity and sexual depictions which included acting out multiple scenes of adultery, including once scene that depicted oral sex. At one point there were three pairs of characters on stage engaging in some sort of adulterous sexual act depiction. The sad thing is that none of the language and the explicitnesses were necessary and actually detracted from the story. The moral take aways from the show were adultery is ok if you aren’t happy in your marriage and everyone is doing it, it’s ok for a married doctor to have intimate sexual relationships with an active patient, and if you do all of these things you will inherit a dinner from a nasty old man when he dies and everyone will live happily ever after. The one virtuous thing that was present was that the main character didn’t have an abortion when she found out she was pregnant and didn’t want the baby. This is all so sad for an otherwise...
