Honest Star Tropical Restaurant — Restaurant in Lawrenceville

I never written a bad review on any site, and today is my 1st. I am highly disappointed in the food I just pick up from honest star at 8:30pm. I always order from here and I've brought people from Atl to lawrenceville to eat at this restaurant. Me, my sisters, we have brought ppl to this place over the years. I been coming to this restaurant and the grocery store since I was in high school, and I graduated '06🙄🙄. After a long day of work from Atlanta traffic, I was really counting on the food. Got home, open the bowl to find an old looking, water down potatoes greens and old fish. It looked and tasted like they just heated a bowl of old potatoes leaves that was in the freezer for months. I am so upset because I havent been to the restaurant in a few month and boom I get trash food. This is my last time ever ordering from you guys. This is nasty and disgusting to do such a thing....

This place doesn’t seem safe for women. The food wasn’t the main issue, but the overall atmosphere felt unsettling and unsafe. I stopped in for a takeout during lunchtime, and there were no other customers. The guy at the counter made me uncomfortable from the start. He kept leering at me in a way that felt inappropriate, especially since I was there alone. Sadly, this wasn’t the first time I’ve dealt with this kind of behavior, but it was the first time I felt this uneasy in a restaurant. Btw, they overcharged me. The prices on the menu didn’t match what I was charged—nearly 25% more than expected. I didn’t notice the discrepancy at the time, as I was eager to leave, but after signing the check, I realized the mistake too late...

I visited honest star to order take out, and I was very impressed with their customer service. They made a mistake on my order, and didn’t find out until I got home. Went back to complain, and they offered to give me a refund on the Yam porridge that wasn’t to my satisfaction, and they also gave me the correct food. I’m writing this because most African restaurants would NEVER do this. So I appreciate the gesture. Although I would have loved not to have to drive another 30 minutes to get it fixed, but I’m thrilled with their response. The Ayamase I ordered is really tasty! The Jollof definitely can be better to taste more authentic. Well done to the managing team. Continue to improve on your food...
