I never do reviews on a business and maybe I should start I don't know. But this is definitely a time to start with this establishment! So here I am driving on i-44 turnpike listening to The Teskey Brothers In my work truck when I had the urge to have some soul food. Google is a simple solution to just type it in the search bar for soul food. And load and behold Sam's BBQ and soul food popped up in my results. What I noticed was it was 4:30 p.m. yet the hours of their business so that they closed at 5:00 p.m. I thought this was a mistake. But I still wanted to have soul food so I made my way to this establishment. I walked in with them pretty much lights off cleaning up for the night. I felt really guilty but I smell the Roma's coming from the kitchen and they seem like they were willing to take my order. I ordered the fried catfish three pieces, green beans, and I asked about the potato salad if it was mayonnaise or mustard. The gentleman informed me that it's a mix of both. I thought that was very interesting never heard of that. It's either one or the other. I also ordered two ribs and peach cobbler since they did not have pecan pie as it was most likely sold out. I got to tell you!!! If the National geographic had camera on me I would look like a damn hyena with blood guts all over my face because the food was that good! I sincerely thought the food was going to be dry, bland, and probably been sitting out for a couple hours and boy did I just miss judge this whole place! Why they close at 5:00 p.m. is only something they can answer but man if they were open 24 hours a day I would make a stop at 3:00 in the morning just to have anything that they serve up! I'm kind of a concierge when it comes to good cuisine as I was a sous chef, I love barbecue, and it's hard to find good catfish or peach cobbler without their breading being heavy or a beer batter mix which is just gross in my opinion. I highly, let me emphasize that, I highly recommend that you bring your family, your friends, and even the person you're trying to squash some beef with and sit them down and have a meal...
Read moreThe front end was very unprofessional looking and actually looked nasty to me. The sides were ok but the smoked chicken was old and very dry, i smoke meat all the time and i can tell it was not made today. Smoked poultry is very juicy when you smoke it. The porkchop i had was not cooked to order either it also tasted old and it was actually cold in the middle but was fully cooked (because it was not freshly cooked). My table was very sticky and gross. I guess this place thinks people are stupid and have pallets that cannot dicern fresh from old. I went here 5 years ago and he food was great but this place had got pretty lazy with their product to save time and money. I am never going back after this even my cornbread was cold. I could also tell a microwave was used on our meats it was rubbery and not heated evenly. Gordon ramsey would have sent everything back LOL. Sorry if this hurts this place but...
Read moreThe fried fish was cooked perfectly how I like it. It was NOT seasoned well enough. The fries had NO SALT. The cornbread tasted like it was sitting out for 2 days. The candied yams was decent. They only serve macaroni on Fridays.. what kind of soul food place only sells macaroni on fridays? Once a week? Also when I was served my potato salad it came as a mashed potato form. I am highly confused since when does potato salad come MASHED? Also I have never been to a soul food place that doesn’t have dirty rice. The waitress so very nice and sweet. However, I do not recommend this place. Also the place when you walk in smells like pure SMOKE. DO...
