RUDE, RUDER, AND RUDEST PLACE EVER!!! We came there for our first visit because we had heard good things about Opus. We were greeted by a man at the entrance who asked us for our reservations? We told him we just came there spontaneously, so he told us rudely that we had our choice of sitting at the bar or "anywhere" on the outside deck. I was not ok with the bar for dinner , so we chose the outside deck. As we were walking through the restaurant to the outside doors, I noticed several tables unoccupied and available throughout the room. As we headed to the patio of an unoccupied table to sit, the waitress then tells us, "oh sorry, you can't sit here, because it is set up for a group of five people," and pointed us to the rear row facing the garden hose and trash. Next, the busboy/server who brought us bread never said hello or any kind of greeting. I still used my manners and said thank you and he again replied nothing. I was getting more agitated and upset in the first five minutes we were there, proving it to be a bad choice. The waitress then reappears and said, "oh that group of five has suddenly canceled and we could now return to that original table if we liked," and we did. To my surprise, then a overly rude and boisterous patron felt the need to address us and again tells us that, "it was already reserved!!!" I fired back at her and told her we were instructed to return by the waitress seating us. Who the hell are these people. I told my wife, that if one person is rude to us in any way, we were walking out. Service was poor and the original bread and spiced olive oil brought to us by the rude busboy/server, never brought it to us to our new table. I had to ask him and the waitress again without anything acknowledging us. He brought the bread and oil when he now had time and basically through it on the table. We order our dinner and it took over 45 minutes to arrive for two simple entries. The food was edible at best, nothing great!! We ate our dinner, paid and walked out very unhappy that we ever considered going there to begin with. We will never step foot in that dump again, even if they pay me!! Feel free to contact me for the proof we were there on...
Read moreAfter a funeral, we had a family gathering here to have a chance to sit and relax for a moment and catch up as a family after not seeing each other for a while. I drove over an hour from West Houston to get here. The location is beautiful and overlooks the water and a pool. Parking was easy as we got there just as they were opening for dinner. I don't know the required attire, but we were all dressed very nicely in suits and dresses. The bar was open, and our seating was prepared with two long tables and several chairs. It would have been nice to have more shaded windows as the sun was beaming into the room. But, there's easy access via an elevator or stairs to make the trek there easier. We ordered drinks and had a seat, but we'd find the drinks would be the quickest item that we'd get. We were given water after being seated for about 20 minutes, and then our orders were taken 10 minutes later. A child spilled a cup of water near the end of the table, and we alerted staff three times over the course of 30 minutes before someone came by with a mop to assist. I assume they wanted all the food to come out at once because we had about 30 people, and it took 45 minutes to an hour for everything to come out. Some of it was returned to be reheated as it had sat and gotten cold before making it to the table. What did make it to the table was not what we were expecting. Everyone who ordered pasta, including my wife, said there was no seasoning on it. It was bland with very little taste. My steak medallions were the same and covered in a brown sauce. The chicken was breaded and was also lacking flavor. Whoever was cooking that day was not using salt, pepper, or any basic seasoning, and for these prices, we expected more. The salad I ordered was the best thing I had, and I should have stopped there. The venue looks really nice, but unfortunately, the food did not live up to the atmosphere. Sadly, they had the wrong person in the kitchen...
Read moreHigh end American (or Continental) cuisine is an appropriate description. You should check out the offerings on their menu. Our party of 7 had a spectacularly good evening there. White tablecloth, an unbelievably great waiter who met the insane "special requests" of everyone in my party ("can I have that on the side?" "can I split the plate" "I'm allergic to xxx" "can I substitute xxx"). Probably the highest percentage of total bill tip I have ever given in my life and he was worth every penny. The food is good. They do the dishes well. There were some things that I would not have done or would have done differently, But that is because I'm a pretty good cook, and a lot of times I just want the purity of the protein without sauce or toppings (note: they would have done anything I requested…they were that kind of restaurant). For example, the scallops on the bed of fettucine Alfredo were given a rub of coriander, cayenne and some other dry spices. Well, if you are serving higher quality scallops, why add a rub which you just typically do with cheaper cuts of meat? That kind of thing. Again, no problem, just a different personal philosophy. Now, if you have seen the movie Chef, you will probably get a chuckle when you remember the Dustin Hoffman character telling his creative chef to "stick with the menu, that is what people expect when they come here" instead of allowing him to create something special for the visiting critic. And here, it's close enough to "continental" or "classic American" cuisine to elicit a chuckle from you. Beautiful venue overlooking a mini-dock with boats...
