We tried Daddy's today, and I'm so happy we did. We are a typical suburban family composed of parents who would rather never see another CFA/McDonalds ever again and children that are so against spice that they will often discard chicken strips for offenses such as having a speck of pepper in the batter. My husband and I, on the other hand, are total spice heads (me worst of all) and try to eat consciously most of the time. I've been excitedly awaiting this restaurant as I knew salads would be on the menu, getting grilled chicken instead of fried chicken would be a possibility and that spices would be available for adults but not automatically used on kid meals.
We finally had the opportunity to try the chicken shack today and it was even better than I had hoped it would be!
Hannah assisted us and she was incredibly helpful both with explaining the menu (a lot of customization options, sides and sauces - yesss!) and so sweet with our children.
The food was delicious and turnaround was super quick! As mentioned above, I am super serious about my spice levels and find most "spicy" items to be a lie. After talking it over with the employees ("burn me, I dare you") I ordered a level 4 (out of 5) on my grilled Nashville chicken sandwich and it was perfectly spicy! Not burn your lips/make you cry/drink 3 glasses of water spicy (so I'll be going for 5 next time - ha!), but if you like spice that would be a good starting point!
Our kids both ate their complete meals and were kept occupied with the fun coloring sheets, which Hannah hung on the wall after we were finished.
I meant to eat a salad here today, but with so many main and side options (you can get fried pickles or loaded fries) didn't do that. My husband loved the loaded fries best, and I picked the pickles as my favorite side option. We agreed that the spicy ranch and signature Daddy's dipping sauces were delicious.
That salad will be there for me next time, and I was also excited to see breakfast items! I'll for sure be trying the egg/chicken option (good macros!) and look forward to trying the beer at a later date as well!
P.S. this restaurant has an app, and right now there is a coupon for a free sandwich if...
Read moreI live nearby and was excited to try this place. I worked for Tumble 22 for over a year and I love good spicy chicken. The staff were friendly and gave me some recommendations. I opted to try the tenders, not wanting a lot of bread right now, although the sandwiches look good.
I'm a little disappointed, but I think there's room for improvement. The tenders were very small, and for $12 and change (plus tip) I only got 4 tenders and I tried two sauces. I wish I would have taken a picture before I tried them, but in the one I took you can see how small they are.
I asked for the lowest level of spice so I could get a baseline, and these were so heavily seasoned, and too spicy for me. The sauces were also spicy (daddy sauce and jalapeno ranch--although I was warned about the heat of the jalapeno ranch) so I couldn't really enjoy it as much as I'd hoped. In comparison to Tumble 22, these were similar in heat level to "dang hot" or "cluckin' hot" (T22).
Suggestions: bigger tenders that don't dry out as much when fried, and are a better value for what's being paid, or add in a side like fries. If someone orders the lowest level of spice, it should have a lot of flavor and a hint of spice, I struggled to eat 2.5 of mine and had to crack open a jar of ranch at home to cool my mouth down.
I'll be back to give another shot, but I'll specifically ask to do very light spice, and I hope the portions or prices...
Read moreI tried this place for the first time the other day. It was clean, uncrowded, and the employees were nice and the service was good.
Unfortunately the FOOD was really BAD. I ordered chicken tenders (country style, so not spicy) with fries and a drink. While the fries were ok, the tenders were truly awful. They were super skinny, so not much chicken at all for $15. I could tell from the flavor and the black specks in the breading that they'd been fried in old/dirty grease. They didn't have much flavor at all. But worse... they had a gelatenous texture like they were a bit under-cooked... and somehow also dried out. They looked like cheap store-bought fish sticks, with the layers of white flaky "meat" that looked fake. It didn't have the look, texture, or taste of real chicken. I could only eat 2 before I gave up and threw it all away. I have never written a bad review about any company before. But these were so bad I wanted to share in the hopes that the restaurant will do...
