My boyfriend has wanted to try this place for a few weeks now. It used to be an ice cream shop called Scoopz, but they renamed it and started serving food in addition to the ice cream. We ordered 2 chicken cutlet parmesean and 1 lasagna to go...$72 after tip.
I kept telling my boyfriend I didn't have a good feeling about the food being good because it never smelled like food in the restaurant while we were waiting. Even if most of the ingredients were pre made, I feel like the "restaurant" should still smell like food, at least a little. 9 minutes after ordering, our food was being bagged up and handed to us.
Got home, opened up the food, and was instantly disappointed. I received this little square of lasagna. My boyfriend and his son received a pan filled with spaghetti noodles and sauce that had spilled out everywhere. Nothing about any of it was authentic Italian food...ive spent quite a bit of time on Italy. The worst part was there was no seasoning used in any of it. No salt, no pepper, no garlic, nothing. It was just bland, seasonless meat and sauce. The chicken cutlets in the chicken parm were dry and tough.
We wanted to like this place because the owners are so sweet, but it was just not good. And the price for the poor quality food made it even more disappointing. We all took a few bites of our food, then ended up throwing $72 worth of food in...
Read moreWe've only had dinner here, no lunch or takeout. The owner's are wonderful native New Yorkers and the real deal (I'd know- I lived in NYC for 30 years).
The lobster ravioli is very good and recommended. Meatballs are homemade, very, very good, and a bargain at $8. The owners run everything and are willing to make fresh pasta to order if you want a type that is not already available. The sauce is a tad bit enigmatic. It's homemade with crushed tomatoes and good, but while I wish I could say it was great sauce, I can't say that. I wish it had more seasoning and more of it's own personality.
There are no side salad or vegetable options available for dinner. It's just your entree and bread. For dessert, the star of the show is the ice cream/gelato. The chocolate is utterly amazing and must be tried. It's worth a trip to Angelo's on it's own. They also offer Spumoni, which is a mixture of chocolate, cherry, and pistachio ice creams. It's rare- I don't think you'll find it elsewhere in Middle Tennessee- and it's fabulous. A true tribute to the heart of this restaurant, which lives...
