Ten or so two top tables in a clean, organized, reasonably priced family run takeout and drive thru operation. Order at the inside walk up window and they holler when your food is ready. Or use the very busy drive through. I'm a well traveled Yankee driver having had barbecue at local spots across the country and whits was different. It's neither KC nor carolina nor texas Style pulled pork nor is it Italian style pulled pork like you might find in Philly or Hoboken. I arrived on a Wednesday which is 3.95 pulled pork sandwich day. On a bun for $3.95, I gave one a try along with potato salad for $1.89 and a 12 oz Turkey stew that was also a special of the day for $4.95. Pulled pork had both strings and chunks on a very fresh soft burger style bun. Flavor was honestly faintly salty with no vinegar, sugar, pepper or smoke taste: an economical meat packed offering without much pop. The small potato salad for $1.89 was showing it's egg and mustard with a yellow color. Dominant tongue tickle came from sugar against the less prominent tang from mustard and perhaps a bit of vinegar. There was no appreciable taste of salt coming through: not my favorite in a potato salad, but still, well put together with good potato flavor and texture. The Turkey "stew"was my least favorite as it's flavor profile was haunted by acid and pepper. Small chunks of meat in a thin acrid broth whose meat taste I could not find, were overwhelmed with elbow macaroni, small hunks of stewed tomato and the odd piece of yellow corn or small cube of potato. To me, a stew features some degree of heft to the sauce and usually features one source of starch: not three. It also features more vegetables like pepper, onion, celery, or carrot in sizes easily discernable. Service was kin, friendly, and attentive. I would come again and next time would look to try one of the platters or come on Friday or Saturday when wings...
Read moreI visited the Lebanon Whitts this evening because my husband loves their loaded BBQ potatoes and I always get a pork sandwich with extra slaw and NO pickles. After sitting in line 6 cars deep, I made it to the window to order. The little girl was nice enough and I gave her the specifics about the sandwich (since I order something a little different than on the menu), paid and left. We live over 20 minutes away, but luckily I checked my order after pulling out of the parking lot and heading down the road…only to find the sandwich was COMPLETELY WRONG. And, this wasn’t the first time at this Whitts. I went back to the restaurant, but it was 7 cars deep at this point. I proceeded to knock on the front door, and the little girl who was working at the drive thru wouldn’t even look at me knocking on the door. So, I walked around and waited on the first car to pull off from the drive thru window, and luckily the next car could see I had gotten the wrong thing and motioned for me to go ahead. When I told the little girl my sandwich was wrong, there was no apology and she actually stood with her back to me Laughing! She kept giggling and never said another word to me. She went to the back and the boy making my sandwich gave it to me. What kind of customer service is this?!?!? Whitts owner…you should really train your young employees in better customer service. I am a paying customer and do not deserve to be laughed at when my order is wrong!! You should have higher expectations of your employees, as this is a reflection of you and your restaurant. I understand people make mistakes. They’re human. But just own up to it and apologize. Especially when you’re taking hard earned money from...
Read moreI really like barbecue!! I am a retired veteran. I like many people have high blood pressure. Recently I started ordering Turkey instead of the pork due to my blood pressure. I was born and raised right here in Lebanon. I have been eating at Witts for decades. I am not one to complain but, tonight, I ordered Turkey as usual. I without checking drove the 6 miles out of town home. Opened my bag and realized it was pork...and old smelling... looking pork at that. I called and spoke to an individual who said she "was the manager"... explained situation and asked if I could return for the Turkey I had ordered. First she said there was "nothing she could do because she would get in trouble". I was upset to which in a rude voice she told me to bring it back and she would swap it out. So I drove back in town to show her the 2 pounds of pork put bag..she then proceeds to offer me a half pound of Turkey..I told her that it was 12 miles round trip and I would at least like a pound. She started talking about the bill saying I paid for pork..30 dollars mind you!! Finally after silly arguments I got half of what I originally asked and paid for. In the late 80's I worked with one of the Witts sons at Circuit City on Charlotte Pike. What happened to customer service and customer loyalty. This used to my favorite barbecue place. With all the new places coming up maybe a staff employee meeting on customer courtesies is in order. Respect and honor have left this generation of kids. Sincerely a old...
