An incredible gem tucked away in Lee, MA
What a find. My wife and I have stayed in the Lenox area a few times, but this time we strayed into Lee on a quiet off-season evening and stumbled onto something really special: Café Triskele. A friend who’s local had recommended it on our first visit and we’d read the reviews, we were just a little slow to get there. I’m so glad we finally did.
The restaurant is so charming, it’s almost like stepping into a little corner of Europe. The bar is intimate and full of character (see photo). Coco, our bartender and server, was an absolute delight. She made us feel welcome, like we were regulars. I started with a violet martini that was surprisingly delicious, with tiny real violets as garnish. My wife had a Pimm’s Cup that reminded her of London on a summer afternoon. I mean, you never see Pimm’s Cups and violet martinis as featured drinks. This was something special and such a lovely way to ease into the evening.
The food was beyond incredible (the other reviews do not exaggerate). I started with the French onion soup, and it was among the best I’ve ever had. Rich and topped with perfectly melted Gruyère, it came with real French bread which was amazing on its own. We kept looking at each other and smiling, like, “Wait, where are we right now?” It was really that good.
For dinner, I went with the Marinière mussels, and I’m not exaggerating when I say these were the best mussels I’ve had anywhere. Seriously. I’ve had them all over the country, I make them at home, I’ve tried plenty at good restaurants, and these honestly blew them all away. Fresh, beautifully prepared with fresh herbs, and served with hand-cut fries that were lightly crispy, golden perfection (see pic). We started planning our next visit halfway through. Seriously.
We finished with profiteroles for dessert, which were airy and decadent. I wish I’d taken a photo to share. And to top it off, we had the pleasure of chatting with Gilbert, one of the owners. He was so warm, genuine, and clearly passionate about what they’ve built here. At one point I asked him if he’d ever seen the film Big Night, because that’s exactly what this meal reminded me of: food made with intention, care, and a kind of reverence you don’t see every day. This is clearly someone who takes deep pride in creating exquisite dishes using the very best ingredients.
If you’re anywhere near the area, do yourself a favor and go. Café Triskele is the real deal. We’re already planning...
Read moreCafe Triskele is a little gem in Lee, MA. I have eaten dinner here twice under the new ownership of husband and wife, Gilbert and Rebecca. The restaurant itself is a charming, historic white house. The menu matches the French and Irish flags out front above the front door, along with the backgrounds of the husband and wife chef. Indoors the ambiance is charming and cozy with three different rooms for dining and a cute bar. There is also a nice outdoor veranda with screens for good spring, summer and fall weather. I love the entire ambiance of the restaurant and the food. The mussels Normandy were particularly delicious along with the salad maison (with fresh lobster in summer) and lobster ravioli were delicious for our table. We also loved the cocktails and desserts. This restaurant has a delicious menu like any top notch restaurant in NY or Boston might; but it also has a very friendly staff and something that makes it special in this little corner of the Berkshires. I cannot recommend this highly enough — indoors or outdoors. You will be full and happy when you leave and the smiles and attentiveness of the staff will remind you why sometimes the charm of a small town establishment is something you just can’t find anywhere. Come to Cafe Triskele when you are passing through, staying nearby or are a local looking for a great meal and a comfortable evening out! And if it’s summer or the fall (leaf peeping season), call ahead or make a reservation to make sure you can get a table. You might even ask about the occasional musical performances they...
Read moreI always photograph my food and regretfully wish I could share but a description will have to do. My husband and I were absolutely blown away. We started with the 3 cheese board. The Brie was creamy perfection, blue cheese was soft and not to stinky and the red wine goat was delightful. Pickled veggies were a lovely touch, can’t get over the tangy unique flavor of the cauliflower. We continued w the tapenade, more perfection. Not to salty, got better w every bite. Next up was the grilled veggie ravioli. Design the bite, we cut it up grabbing everything they included in the dish to really get the full flavor in every bite, spinach, arugula, and olive oil was extraordinary. For our entrees we did the veggie burger and smoked bluefish mousse. The mousse was giving me kossar smoked white fish vibes but less salty which was great because the capers give it the bite I wanted. Veggie burger was beet, texture was smooth not to grainy but still didn’t stay in it’s perfect shape as a homemade veggie burger should live organically formed. Together they were actually quite nice!! Before jumping to dessert may I add the fries were everything. Every fry should taste like a potato…yum. But dessert was every pb and j lovers dream. It was a special! Pb ice cream in a chocolate sandwich. Somehow not to rich w whipped cream (lite and fluffy) and the perfect berry compote. Could you describe a better night. Oy even when I am not staying in town I will drive here for dinner. See you nice time and thank you for the...
