I decided to try carryout from this restaurant on my way home from work on Monday. While I didn't try the Pho, I did order several dishes for my husband and I to try, that we have had at other Vietnamese restaurants. I ordered: Spring Rolls, Bahn Mi' cold cut sandwich, Calamari salad, Chicken Salad, and Shaking Beef. Upon opening the cold cut sandwich disappointment set in. Where was the French bread? The sandwich was made on an American SOFT sub roll, it was dry with hardly any vegetables or meat. The Spring Rolls were made with tasteless shrimp and stuffed with iceberg lettuce? The "peanut" sauce tasted like a bad peanut butter with vodka? Or maybe that meant it was bad. The calamari salad tasted only of mint, the calamari itself was tasteless. Seriously no taste. The chicken salad was overwhelmingly shreeded carrot, with Chicken and again the only flavor coming thru was the mint, wheres the cilantro? Shaking Beef accetable, but not outstanding. The ladies upfront who helped me were nice. My one recommendation do not put your sandwhichs on American bread, it just...
Read moreOur family Love gong out and this place was one of the favorite restaurants. After the change of the ownership we still went there even food taste wasn’t like before. but.....today this significant incident happened and we will no longer visit here. After the new management, their service and food doesn’t taste the same. And today.... we found a metal scrub from the Lime tofu! Awful! Thank goodness... i found the piece.. what if one of my child have swollen it??I do not want to imagine at all! I called the waitress and showed her the metal scrub.. she took the plate and came back asked me if we want another dish! I said no and she asked me money back. I was very shocked there was no apology at all. I have to explain to the lady that i would have just paid the price of the dish if there was an apology. Anyway.... our family decided that this restaurant will be off from our favorite list. By the way .. their bathroom smells and sometimes if you get seated by the end of the room... you can smell the sewer..... so avoid the rear end...
Read moreI have eaten pho in many places around the world (unfortunately not Viet Nam). It is my favorite dish to eat and I've tried it in easily more than 100 different restaurants. I am certain Xuan Saigon serves the best pho in the DC area and that includes all the places I've tried in Eden Center and the classic Pho 75 in Roslyn. In fact there are only 2 other places that I would say are even comparable. One is in San Francisco, CA and the other is in Prague, CZ.
A large bowl will cost you about $1 more than the typical pho restaurant but keep in mind this is a full service establishment and the quality of the dish makes it well worth the price. I should also mention that the garden rolls are equally superb.
Xuan Saigon is a hidden gem...
