In an effort to help improve the customer experience at my neighborhood grocery store, I offer the following constructive observations:
This is a beautiful, HUGE store, and most parts of it are run very well. I have always found the folks at the butcher counter to be particularly friendly and helpful.
The experience at the deli counter, on the other hand, is atrocious. Today, I walked in at 1pm. I went straight to the deli, where I placed my order and was told it would be 10 minutes. There were two employees working, and there was a small line of workers ordering mainly from the hot bar. Only myself and one other customer ordered meats. I completed my shopping, went back, and my order was not ready. I walked all the way to the far side or the store and looked at Hot Wheels cars for 5 more minutes, then walked back, and my order was still not ready. Being that I have a life and other things to do, I left without my deli order. This is not the first time I have had to do this.
In order to improve customer satisfaction and order accuracy, I suggest the following:
Have one employee dedicated to the hot bar who can assist on meats when there are no hot orders. Have one employee dedicated to meat and cheese orders at all times. During peak hours, consider adding another. Take the order and make the order IMMEDIATELY! This solves the problem of customers leaving their orders behind because their orders are still not done when they are finished shopping. It also reduces mistakes and inaccuracies. I have literally ordered ham in this store, come back at the end of my shopping, and they cut me turkey. Who has time to wait for you to correct an error that should have never been made? Other examples include when I have asked to have the meat cut extra thin, and I come back, and it is cut too thick. Again, who has time at the end of a shopping trip to wait around for an error to be corrected that should have never been made?
We just moved here from Houston, TX. Every grocery store there cuts your meat immediately, in front of you. They make the first slice and confirm the thickness is correct before continuing. Utah is the only place I have encountered this "place your order, come back, and hope they didn't screw it up"...

This store used to be phenomenal. It had a separate section for health food and seemed to be competing with Harmon's. You could easily walk in and out, and get everything you needed health wise. The store was also pretty laid back and nice. Things quickly changed when Smiths randomly spread the health section across the entire store, with small green signs showing you were the health section is. I was always hesitant to write a review, but the store has fallen so so far apart. They used to let you use Apple Pay for about a year, then they disabled all their machines, so you can't even do tap to pay. This is to try to get you to install their app to use Kroger pay.. 2 hours or more before closing employees throw pallets in the isles to restock. They also have janitors go around and mop right next to you, as if you are in the way. It's very very very janky. They painted the outside of the store to this unnatural grey tone, vs the earth tone of the rest of the buildings in the area. They also remodeled, adding super tacky photos of the Lehi Roller mills, and big cursive fonts everywhere. The redesign looks like it was done either last week, or 25 years ago. This store would have tons of health options [more than Harmon's] They also had their kombucha section front and center. Now everything is scrambled everywhere in total chaos, and the store feels way way less upscale than it used to. I never liked Smiths, but it was an incredible store. Now it is just pure anxiety walking miles around, trying to find all I need. I now try to avoid this store whenever I can, which is sad because of how great is used to be. It just feels like an average tacky grocery-store.. One that has tried to go back in time, and wants customers to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate 12/2023 It's time to bring back doughnuts that are cooked on site. These dry things that have been cooked off site, frozen, and defrosted to be put out are garbage. People, please stop buying them until they bring back real baked doughnuts. They switched during the pandemic and never went back.
Old review: This store continues to decline in quality. The new layout is the most absurd thing I have every seen. While I welcome the much larger produce section, they now have the most common food items in about five short rows in an odd part of the store behind the produce section, while the main part of the store, where you would expect to have the main groceries, has huge wide sections for water and soda. And then the chips and candy aren't by the rest of the food. They are stuck way over by cosmetics and stuff. It makes no sense at all. And the giant new produce section has a tiny little section for kale and similar vegetables, meaning it is never stocked. I have had to go to other stores for those vegetables several times now. And the bakery no longer bakes fresh doughnuts, but instead puts out factory-made ones that have been frozen and thawed. So sad to see all this money put into a really badly designed remodel. Not that it matters, but they painted the outside of the store gray and white, which clashes with all of the stone and the look of the surrounding complex - who designed this remodel? It's all just so bad. Finally, they still stock late into the morning hours, making it impossible to get down some isles with a cart. Boxes and products litter entire lengths of isles during busy times. I wish we had closer options, because I keep going back and keep experiencing...
