Return trip based on past experiences. The atmosphere and a few menu favorites keep me coming back about once a year, though it’s a good distance from my home.
Service was good, though I was offered a box while I was still actively eating when they approached. My tea was kept full. Polite, friendly staff. I was assisted by at least 3 of them.
Food was good. I ordered the lettuce wraps. Chicken was a bit overcooked and on the dry side. I also got the fried eggplant appetizer. They came out to tell me they were out of eggplant and offered to prepare the zucchini the same way or asked if I’d like something different. I had the zucchini, and it was great. Loved the sauce. Not big on the brown sauce for the lettuce wraps, so I used the other for both dishes.
A problem plaguing them seems to be a sewer smell in the bathroom (maybe from the drains needing water run down them occasionally, as we’ve had a similar problem in our laundry room). It was an issue on one past visit a few years ago that caused the entire restaurant to smell. I was ready to leave if this was the case on this visit. This time, it was confined to the restroom only, thankfully. And yes, the restroom appeared neat and clean, well stocked and in otherwise good repair.
One of the ladies behind me seemed to be having an issue with their shrimp being overcooked. The cook or manager came out to handle it and sounded very friendly and willing to make it right by replacing the item or taking it off the bill. He also took the plate to show the kitchen what the issue was. He went above & beyond, though it sounded like the lady was maybe just hard to please. This alone made me feel good about the restaurant.
Overall, I’d...
Read moreI'd never heard of this place before yesterday. It has good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a try. The menu was eclectic Asian, mostly Chinese, but with things like Vietnamese spring rolls and Pad Thai on the menu. As usual, I started with hot and sour soup because it tells me a lot about a restaurant. What I'm looking for is it should be very both, with pork, shrimp, tofu, eggs, and fungus, maybe other things, for interest. Sadly this was not the case here, instead it what one would expect at a pretty good fast food Chinese place like Panda Express. Pretty bland with soy sauce being the dominant flavor. It had tofu plus some other vegetation a bit of pork, not much egg, mushrooms, scallions. Disappointing, but most places fail this test with me. Next up was their Sichuan Pork Dumplings. These are a steamed dumpling sitting in a chili oil and soy sauce based sauce. Quite good. The filling was ground pork with just a hint of some other flavors in it, I couldn't really identify. The sauce was good as well, a bit of heat but not enough to put off anyone who doesn't like hot. The entree for me was Hui Style Lamb with Spices. Something I was unfamiliar with so thought I'd try. This turned out to be marinated in corn starch and soy then fried lamb on a bed of stir fried mung bean sprouts with green peppers and those hot dried peppers that are so prevalent in Chinese cooking. This was surrounded by deep fried eggplant. All good. I would not rate this restaurant a 23, it's very good, but by no means extraordinary, I'd give...
Read moreBff needs to return a blouse she bought 🙄 (it's a habit). Off we go to one of her favorite all in one shopping places-119th and Nall. She returns blouse and buys 2 more items 🤣. We saunter around and I'm hungry and she mentions Bo Lings. I've never been nor heard about it. SO, let's go! We enter and are immediately greeted and shown to our servers "favorite booth". Bff tells me this is her favorite Chinese restaurant and when my hot and sour soup arrives, I agree! WOW! JEEPERS! this soup is NOT watery (like alot of others). It's loaded with full sliced mushrooms, tofu, etc, and has a significant hot taste that actually warms my throat. EXCELLENT. The Sapporo beer is a recommendation from our server and rounds out the hot taste with a mild IPA. My luncheon general toas chicken is drenched in a thick and spicy sauce and the chicken is all white meat-no mystery dark meat here! It's served with my choice of fried rice. The fried rice is not dry and crunchy, it's moist and delicate. I don't even need to douse my meal with soy sauce! It's a musical without accompaniments because you don't need it! Service is friendly and be advised it's a perfect slow yet timely. Food is prepared as ordered so nothing tastes like it comes from a "warmer" and dished up and thrown on the food pass from thr kitchen. Bathroom is super clean-love the succulent plant (adorable). Beautiful food presentation and a truly hearty meal that is affordable. I'm really hoping they open a restaurant in...
