I very rarely write reviews and I hesitated to write this one because the owner is so sweet but... I have no idea how this place has so many 3+ star reviews and I feel like I need to give people a heads up because this was possibly - no, definitely - the worst Mexican food we've ever had. We had our hopes set pretty high because we called to see about vegan menu options and the owner gave us a huge list of what can be veganized so we went in super excited to try a new place.
Off the bat this place was incredibly drab and doesn't have a great atmosphere, but some hole-in-the-walls are so maybe the food would be good.
First red flag - chips and salsa not complimentary, a first when going to a Mexican restaurant.
We got nachos which were pretty flavorless and had to be salted and an chimichanga that was literally steamed unseasoned vegetables wrapped in a fried tortilla drenched in borderline inedible tomato sauce. We were asked if we want rice and beans with the dish - again things that are usually included with these types of dishes at a normal Mexican restaurant - we found out later that we were upcharged for every little thing offered.
We couldn't get guacamole because they put mayonnaise in the guac? Who does that? Instead we opted for half an avocado which ended up being $2.50.
We split a small thing of nachos, a soft drink, and an inedible unseasoned steamed vegetable chimichanga with rice and beans and half an avocado and it all came out to almost 40 dollars.
Also, I asked for some lime to put on my avocado, and the server looked at me like I had two heads and told me they don't usually have limes but he'll check. It's a Mexican restaurant! How can you not have limes?? They had one this time but apparently it was a rare occurence. I'm surprised I wasn't charged for it.
Overall - if you want flavorful Mexican food in Lewisburg, settle for Taco Bell or better yet drive 10 minutes south to El Torito in Shamokin Dam and get something more authentic.
Again, I'm sorry to have to write this review because the owner seemed genuine and sweet but I don't think this place should call itself Mexican cuisine and we sadly have no reason to ever...
Read moreIf I could give this establishment no stars I would. There were so many things wrong I feel it would be best to just bullet the problems. 7:00PM reservation moved to 8 then 8:30 but not seated until 9:00PM Stood in crowded stairway without anyone greeting us or asking name. Heck there was no one at the hostess desk. Multiple groups behind us were taken seated ahead of my group. Went to restroom, while waiting to be seated, I noticed at least 5 tables that needed to be turned. Yet we were left in stairway with reservation. No bar. BYOB Our server was very "short" did not read welcoming to my group. He seemed distracted by his 3 or 4 visits to our table. When my order came out, he had gotten it wrong. Tacos with flour tortillas. It was prepared on hard shell tortillas. He seemed irritated that I informed him that the order was wrong. In observing the owner and her communication with patrons, I understood. I'm use to being made to feel welcomed and treated warmly with a smile. At least The food was not what I expected. No, it was unremarkable verging on being memorably bad. My wife order the fish tacos and they were good. I guess my expectation was authentic Mexican but got gringo-latino fusion out of a can. Would recommend a visit to the supermarket ethnic frozen food section for microwavable burritos, your favorite libation and Netflix at home before Abrana...
Read moreIt was ok but I honestly expected it to be elevated over the Sunbury Taco Queen location (same owner). I felt the place was missing the standard items all sit down restaurants of this cuisine carry. Examples - complimentary salsa and chips ($5.95 here), bottle of the chef or owner's favorite hot sauce on the table (only salt and pepper)... As others stated, I'm in agreement that the prices are a bit high but I don't think they would keep me away. I'll explain later but everything is ala carte, and no dinner plates meaning you have to add sides. The portions are fair, but the plating is very messy. I asked for both red and green sauces on my enchiladas (Christmas style) but I couldn't find the green sauce. It ended up that it wasn't poured over the enchiladas but it was under my order of rice and beans (each by the way had to be added as they are not included for nearly $2 ea). They did bring me extra green and it was phenomenal! The red is a bit thick, and it overpowers everything it gets on. Just my personal take. Over all, I'll be back because I hope to see the owner continue to grow and flourish. I wish them great success...
