It was a dark and rainy night, Monday if I remember correctly, when I found myself craving a Jim's special. Sometimes the cravings are for hot dogs with chili. Other times a cheeseburger but this time was different. This time was like no other, like I was going to visit Jim's Drive-in for the very first time. I knew that it was going to be the ranch burger, fries, and a Dr. Pepper. As the evening progressed, I knew it would be 13 hours until Jim's would be open for business, that's right. It was Monday evening and Jim's is closed from 3:00pm Monday until just before lunchtime on Tuesday. I had to sleep through the night and I knew it would be almost impossible. Hour after drooling hour I tossed and turned looking at the clock and contemplating the fact that every hour that passed brought me 60 minutes closer to the time when my Jim's Craving would finally be satisfied! At long last I was awake and ready to start my day, checking the weather forecast, morning news and getting up to enjoy my morning cup of Joe. Just a few hours until Jim's would be open. My patience was growing thin. Me and my dog, Annie Oakley, a 6 year old Golden Doodle made our way to the car.........soon we found ourselves parked at the West side of Jim's Drive-in. Our wait was almost over. Suddenly, as if summoned by a subliminal signal our curbside gladiator, Lynn emerged and greeted us with her very predictable, warm greeting and a smile as if sent from Heaven above to satisfy our insatiable hunger for a Jim's Special!! "What can I get you?" She said with a smile. The moment was almost too overwhelming for me to put it into words!! "The Big Ranch Burger and large fries, please", I said, as my mouth began to water....."anything to drink?" She said, after a long pause. I was coming to grip with the realization that my hour had finally come...."yes" I said, "a Dr. Pepper in a bottle" I said, with the feeling that I was forgetting something. "And I won't forget your pup cup for Annie" she said. "Oh yes " I said as I realized my trusted K-9 companion was going to enjoy her treat as well!! "Thanks Lynn" I...
Read moreWe arrived 10 minutes before closing and I suspected we'd be able to at least place a to-go order. Much to my surprise, our kind server said we'd be just fine parking for the drive in meal. They have the best homemade vanilla milkshake, french fries, club sandwiches (no tomatoes) and grilled cheese (lightly toasted). My son and I enjoy our time together talking, laughing and eating up here. It's a very special place. They added tomatoes to my club sandwich and I let our server know. She wrote no tomatoes and went back to get me a new one made. I thought it was really great that we arrived so close to closing yet we weren't rushed and a mistake was fixed with a genuine apology which really wasn't even necessary. Great prices for the food quality, always fresh and consistent along with the full experience is a must visit! Everyone here is always so kind no matter how packed Jim's can get at times, they're always close to...
Read moreI second the horrible experience on 4th of July. The management is not prepared for quick service or to serve people at all. We waited over 30 minutes before they finally took our order. We decided after another 40 minutes to leave because our food still wasn’t ready. Dumpsters are right next to their tables, within 10 feet, and you can smell the trash, literally. The management says they never bring drinks before the rest of the order is done, which is bad when it’s over almost 90 degrees out and people are sitting in the sun. We didn’t receive anything from them except bad service, no drinks and no food. I asked them politely at their window about gaining service and we still had a long wait for a server to come to us. Their reply to other reviews says it all: they will just continue business as is without actually caring about the people...
