Great atmosphere but I don't get it. The free bread was great (comes with balsamic and olive oil). We got an appetizer which was the same as the free bread only with roasted red peppers and goat cheese (hard to screw that dish up). They don't have a kids menu but the waitress asked the chef to make our 3 year old a grilled cheese. That was the best of the 3 entrees we got (I'm not being facetious...it was a really good grilled cheese). The good ended right after the decent side salads.
My ribeye looked good. It was a perfect medium rare. It came with a side of horseradish sauce which I thought was odd. Once I tasted my beautifully cooked steak I understood why it was there. My steak was poorly seasoned and the meat itself lacked flavor. There is no salt or pepper on the tables so you are relegated to the sauce. The greens on the plate were good and the mashed potatoes were meh. I've had much better rib eyes from Walmart.
My wife's Sicilian pasta was much the same story. Sausage was seasoned, unlike my steak, but incredibly dry. My wife made the comment that we make better food at home for 1/3 the cost of this meal. I agreed. Basil was present on every dish we had except the salads so you better like basil. Luckily we do.
Service was good but the waitress certainly did not exude hospitality. We won't return...
Read moreThis was an immensely enjoyable dining experience from the moment we walked through the front door of this unpretentious cafe. The word cafe may make you think that this is not a fine dining establishment but once you enter you will know otherwise. The fragrances permeating the air were affirmation that we could expect to have a phenomenal dining experience. The hostess and server were friendly and welcoming. The hostess went above and beyond helping us to locate a source of live music for our post-dinner enjoyment. The server served us with a smile and a willingness to ensure that our dining experience was enjoyed. This is a farm to table venue. My locally sourced ribeye steak was flavorful, tender, and cooked exactly as I ordered, as was the pecan crusted salmon ordered by my spouse. These meals came with Sesame Filone bread drizzled with balsamic reduction and served with a full flavored olive oil. Additionally, they came with a small salad of mixed greens and gorgeous red grape tomatoes. We finished off our meal with a piece of their Tiramisu. We were not disappointed. The sponge was light and the coffee soaked bottom layer was flavorful without being excessively soggy. When you come to Lewisburg, WV, do not pass up...
Read moreWe picked up carry out dinner this evening. The Trust Me salad had no dressing, the lettuce was wilted and when we added the chicken, which was crunchy(?), it amounted to the worst 22.00 salad we've ever eaten. We were too far away and too tired to return. (Another in our party got spaghetti in sauce that wasn't ordered.) We spent 78.00 on our meals, and tipped 10.00. Big mistake. I only wish I could give the rave reviews that helped us choose this restaurant. Advice: eat in so you can return inedible food, or, like us, choose elsewhere.
Note: We were surprised to see the owner's response (below) as integrity is impressive. My husband called and the owner explained new circumstances and apologized. It went a long way in allowing that mistakes happen in any business. We have not received the refund, but will post if we do. Our meals deserved this refund, as we do not play games with businesses or reviews. Being self employed ourselves, we do not believe in undermining honest hardworking people.
NOTE: Our meals were credited by the owner. Any owner who handles problems in this way is impressive. Thank you! We...
