TLDR; A to go parking spot is more valuable than a paying customer and because I didn't let the manager shame me, I was banned for Angelinas for my bad attitude.
I had a rare night out alone and decided I wanted to have one of my favorite desserts at Angelina's Mexican restaurant. They serve Angelinas Apple Pie on a hot plate with ice cream. Its fantastic.
However, when I drove up to the restaurant the parking lot was entirely full; except for 2 of the 12 take out spots that they have. I parked my minivan in the only available spot in take out parking spot #12 and walked into the restaurant.
I sat down and was immediately served chips and salsa. The salsa was great. I then looked over the menu and decided I was going to have the fajita nachos, the burrito special, and my dessert. All in all, probably a $30 dinner plus tip for a single person. I could take the left overs home if necessary. (Probably not. I'm a big guy.) Great value as the food is good and the dessert like I said was a favorite.
However, I was soon approached by a manager type "Karen" lady, who told me that I needed to move my minivan since I was taking up a to go parking spot. I told her the lot was full and I had nowhere else to park. She told me I needed to move my van.
So I stood up and decided to go somewhere else since a real paying customer was less important to this manager than a theoretical customer that may or may not need a parking spot.
On my way out, I stopped and asked the cashier to change a 20 dollar bill for me so I could leave a tip for the busser who would have had to clear my table. The manager and cashier changed my bill. I handed a 5 to the manager and told her to give it to the busser and headed out the door to move my car/leave.
As I was leaving, the cashier questioned the manager as to why I did what I did. The manager told the cashier and the other waiting patrons/servers that I was angry I was asked to move my car. I stopped at the door and told the manager that now I wasn't angry, but I was going somewhere else since I had nowhere else to park.
I then left and walked to my car. The manager then followed me out the door and yelled at me that I was banned from Angelina's because of my bad attitude and they didn't want my business.
I guess Angelinas is doing really well since they're able to 86 customers because they parked in a to go parking spot. By the way, when I walked out the door. The parking lot was still full but now they had 3 to go parking spots available.
I gave it 2 stars because even though I'm banned, I really like the apple pie. Maybe I can sneak in with another car and the manager might not notice. Also the other 8 cars in the togo parking lot did not have waiting patrons. They were able to sneak in safely.
Beware the to go parking lot manager Karen....
Read moreI had the combo (x3) Enchiladas (2 SC & Chicken & 1 Cheese w/Chili Con Carne') and I really loved it, but I think I would have preferred the fajita over the shredded Chicken and as well it could of had a bit more SC sauce as I had to preserve it to get thru both my Chicken Enchiladas. But, the SC sauce had a great flavor and consistency. I thought the Rice was very good too. The Refried Beans were mediocre and needed a bit more cheese to provide more flavor. I used some of the Salsa which was superior to add flavor and excitement to it. I had the 22oz Shiner on tap which was very cold and perfect. It only cost $5.50 which is super reasonable. I wish the price for the combo Enchiladas was as reasonable but I know these restaurants are struggling like the rest of us trying to survive in this Bidenomic inflationary economy so I will give them a pass on that! The atmosphere was rather authentic with a somewhat nice retro feel but still could use some cleaning up and some freshness as it really looks like it's been the same way for the last 50yrs. I had heard from several people that the place was very good and for the most part I feel like it lived up to its reputation but I still see that it has room for improvement if it wants to be a premier Mexican Restaurant in the DFW area as there is one on just about every corner and some of them are excellent. My problem is that there's so many it would literally take a lifetime and a rich personal budget to test all of them enough to make a fair determination. I have only had the Cheese/Chili Con Carne' & the SC & Chicken Enchiladas and the Chips and Salsa and I am sure that some of the other items on their menu are very good and maybe even closer to perfect but I gotta try them first so a greater opinion is still unexplored till then to be totally fair, but as I said, I would suspect goodness from my initial experience. I give 2 thumbs up on definitely a must try for yourself. On the bland to spicy meter I give them somewhere in the middle for those that value Mexican food from that perspective! Good...
Read moreHeard good things about this place in the various local food groups, and it's always packed when I drive by, so we decided to try it out on a miserably rainy Thursday evening. Fast, friendly, and attentive service, the ambiance is pretty much what you'd expect for a solid Tex Mex restaurant, and the food was great! We also partook of the happy hour drink specials and were not disappointed.
Wife and I just decided to split one of their appetizer platters -- the one with all the chicken stuff. Somewhat comically, one of the two chicken jalapeño poppers was completely devoid of filling (it was the right size and shape so clearly the filling must have seeped out during deep-frying). I notified our server and she swiftly replaced it with not one but TWO extra poppers (one chicken, one cheese). Hooray!
Wife decided she needed more protein and we ordered the cóctel de camarónes and you need to understand that this was always the dish her dad would make her when she was younger and she needed cheering up so it's near and dear to her heart. It is no small praise to indicate that it met with her approval.
Chips were good. Salsa was quite tasty, though more liquid than solid. Nothing wrong than that; just observing.
They also gave us a couple sweetened coffee shots at the end of our meal. Neat!
Also, there was an abuelita serving the table next to us, unapologetically forcing some Español out of the exceedingly white family in the table next to us and calling them mijo and mija and while our server was great, I've never had server-envy more in my entire life. Next time, Angelina's. Next time.
Anyway, do yourself a favor and check out Angelina's. Good food, good...
