Ok, I'm giving 5 stars because you should totally come visit and try it yourself. It's a bit too greasy for me - I was hoping for a big fluffy biscuit, but it's on the crunchy side of buttered/griddled/greasy. I ended up getting the "old fashioned" with a biscuit, eggs, chicken, and gravy. The chicken was too big, thin, but definitely twice as much chicken as needed in the dish. I think I might have liked it better with no chicken and my eggs runny. You're definitely going to get your quota's worth of salt and fat in most of the options here. Don't get me wrong, it tastes amazing! It's just too greasy for me. I will say I practically got two meals out of it.
The whole setup is more diner/picnic like, with disposable containers and cutlery, a few tables in front of the register/kitchen, bigger tables in the next room, and several picnic tables outside under an overhang. I think this is the only time I've ever had occasion to say that I think they have a few too many people working there! There's a bit of a crowd when you walk in (of employees/owners) and I got checked on at my table about 4 times during a short meal, which felt excessive and unexpected. I think they're trying to get people in the door and are super friendly and accomodating, whatever you need, but it was a little too much. I feel like there's some confusion on if it's counter or table service, honestly. Maybe it used to be one thing and it's turned into another since the pandemic.
But my personal preferences aside, the only real problem with this place is that they're only open on weekends. Friday, Sat, Sun, and only in the morning hours. I mean, on the one hand, as much as I visit Lexington, I never saw it open, which drove me to make sure to go when it was. But on the other hand, I would have tried it much sooner were it open more often. I'd still go back to try the shrimp and grits they're so proud of, and maybe a biscuit alone on its own terms. If I can catch it...
Read moreWe paid $44 for two biscuits and a coffee. I was greeted politely and in the middle of her explaining the way bubbas works she stopped mid sentence to then start her greet on the next personâŚ. I never did hear the rest of her spill. It was busy though so I found it funny. When ordering I asked for help and the cashier did oblige. I asked for an iced coffee though was disappointed when I had to figure out on my own that there was only hot coffee. I feel like she could have let me know what was and was not available. After 12 years in the restaurant business I will not judge on the outside appearance of the shop, but I will judge the kitchen and I was concerned with cleanliness and hand washing. Smiles were all around from the staff but that doesnât make up for poor quality food. The plates we were given were covered in grease - I get it it happens. The biscuit was flavorless and already broke into separate pieces. So it was more of a fork and knife situation. The chicken breast size was worth the money especially if youâre really hungry but for me it was very rubbery and not flavorful. I was told by the greeter that the potatoes were one of the best and there tossed in the best Cajun seasoning. However the potatoes were completely plain. The avocado was over ripped and brown (itâs labeled as a spread though it was just chunks of avocado on the side of my biscuits) and this is not a Jack of all trades but my tomato was soured. I appreciate what Im guessing was the owner, who came by the table and asked how everything was. At this point I hadnât opened my bowl to start eating yet or I probably would of addressed to get a new tomato at the least. We just threw the food away đ I understand the business is around 2 years old and has beloved regulars. It was just a...
Read moreEdit update: went back to Bubbas today. Some constructive criticism here. The online menu shows the Sweet Heat Biscuit is $10, the in store menu shows itâs $10.50 and I was charged $12 each for 2 of them. Also I corrected the young lady over the phone that I wanted an egg and cheese biscuit and not bacon and egg and cheese biscuit, the total was still the same and I still received a bacon egg and cheese biscuit at time of pickup. Also this time the chicken on the biscuits was not very good. Barely any batter/breading on the chicken breast and very firm texture like it was finished in the microwave. I was a professional Chef for 8 years and know what a microwaved piece of protein feels and tastes like, this is not an uninformed critique here. So overall with the inconsistency in pricing, the error in order taking which should not have happened if you listen to your customer, and the really bad texture and cooking of the chicken and âover-easyâ egg this was not pleasant. I understand inflation is real and the cost to run a business is no joke. I do not mind supporting local businesses and paying a bit more. I do not however like being surprised by the price and figuring out itâs listed for 3 different prices in 3 different locations. And if Iâm paying 31 bucks for 3 biscuits, I kind of expect a little more love put into the cooking of the chicken and egg. It looks like the fryer was too hot and the batter started getting dark so it was thrown in the microwave to finish it. Not impressed. Will not be back based on...
