City Barbeque — Restaurant in Lexington

I was visiting KY with a few colleagues and chatted with some locals about a good BBQ place to try while we were in town. This place was mentioned by a couple people so we figured we'd check it out. Between all four of us, we had a chance to try a lot of the menu. Brisket, ribs, turkey, pulled pork, Texas toast, hushpuppies, green salad, cornbread, collard greens, green beans and coleslaw. The sides were really good. Cornbread was good. The coleslaw was crisp, well dressed and fresh. The collards were tender and flavourful. The green beans, although very soft, had amazing flavor. The hushpuppies were nice and crisp in the outside while keeping moist on the inside with a subtle sweetness. The texas toast was fresh and perfectly toasted. All sides were served in generous portions. The pulled pork had a well formed bark and was flavorful and moist. The green salads were very plain. Nothing outstanding and nothing horrible. Just a basic salad.The ribs were decent. A little less smoke flavor and a little more chewy than I would prefer. I'm not looking for fall of the bone tender but a little more time in the smoker would be good. The turkey had good flavor but was very dry. The last item and probably the most disappointing for me would be the brisket. Much like the ribs, it could habe used some more time in the smoker. The flavor was good but the texture was a miss. I would not return for the meats(other than the pulled pork) but I would definitely return for the sides. Unfortunately I can't give more than two stars because I feel that even though the sides were good, it's the meats that count at a bbq joint and this place just...

1st let me say we have enjoyed City BBQ for many years. Today we stopped in for a meal and they weren’t crowded. We ordered our food and went to grab a table. Of the 25/30 empty tables none, I repeat none of them were cleaned up and ready for customers to eat on. I’m not sure if a big party left or what but the place looked like it hadn’t been cleaned all day! Tables with crumbs and scraps on them. The leafs in the table had food particles in the cracks in every table. Food particles and French fries on the floor. Shoe/boot tracks everywhere I mean it was a mess!! It looked like it hadn’t been mopped in a week. I asked the manager if we could get a table cleaned up and he graciously came and cleaned one and wiped several others and I am grateful. The food was good. We will be back. But if it’s this dirty next time I’ll scratch my head on visits after that. My question would be if the dining area is this bad what does the kitchen area look like and would we want to be eating from there. I have it two stars only because the...

I give City BBQ a big thumbs up on following through with a huge mess up that wasn’t their fault. Placed two orders through a delivery service(DoorDash). We received 1 of two orders. After notifying DD of never receiving the second order and calling CB to confirm that they still had the order, I was never so disappointed in a delivery service failing at getting it right. Several attempts and promises from DD to dispatch a delivery person, two hours later, still nothing. Called CB and they said DD was sending someone but they never did. Ray, the manager at CB personally delivered our order. Although we didn’t get exactly what we originally ordered, I appreciate the effort he gave to take care of the customer. I give them five stars on customer service. As far as the food goes, I didn’t get the side items with my half slab of ribs that I originally ordered, so the review of the ribs are just ok.
