UPDATE: dropped a star because of an employee there, Keith or something like that, worked today (2-12-23 at around 11:15AM.) This happens every single time he's there, he says my food will be ready in 15-20 minutes, I get there & it hasn't even been started. Well, today it took about 30 minutes & then doesn't even offer or give my husband his change, guess he thought he deserved the tip. I know . 49¢ isn't a lot, but it's the fact that it was neither offered nor given. I will not be ordering from here anymore if this guy is working. If I call & he answers, I'm just gonna tell him I changed my mind. I visit Gus's probably 2-3 times per week, absolutely LOVE this place, however, this guy is very incompetent. I mean 30 minutes AFTER you order & your food hasn't even begun to be prepared? That's ridiculous, it's like he's not even informing the cooks that there's an order. Today it just took 30 minutes for my food to get done, at least it got dropped before 30 minutes of waiting, but still, what he did, snot even offering the change, wasn't right. My husband was already upset because the food still wasn't ready, so he didn't even realize it until he had left. OMG. This place... AMAZING!! My husband & I were going at least once a week. The chicken is cooked 2 order, so be prepared 2 wait a little bit, especially if ordering breast(about 20min), but it is well worth the wait. They have the best Mac n cheese & I love their fries. The chicken is slightly spicy, but there is a kids menu, so if u can't handle the heat, eat off the kiddie menu. It doesn't matter what u eat though, it's ALL...
Read moreThe service was great and the ambiance was also. Now let's get to the food! So I'm from Memphis and my Mama loves this place! It's her favorite so I had to see what the fuss is about. So my wife and I went after church. We ordered a family meal of the chicken and the sides were Seasoned fries, Potato salad, Cole slaw, and Mac N Cheese just to try em. Got home made a plate of a little bit of everything with 2 breasts. I love my chicken with Honey and hot sauce but I wanted to try it by itself. When I bit into the chicken my childhood flashed before my eyes of my grandma making her famous chicken! It was so tasty and so moist still after driving 30 mins back home! Had a lil kick but not spicy at all! Just flavor! The best fried chicken I've had in years! It was everything they say it is and I see why it's my Mom favorite place for fried chicken! Now let's get to the side. The seasoned fries weren't all that. Maybe the drive home wasn't good on the fries. Fresh they may be good, but they soggy and not flavorful. Bw3 seasoned fries, Rally's, or Popeyes is better. Get the chicken from there and fries from them lol! 😂 The Mac N Cheese was decent, so was the potato and slaw. Just okay. But the chicken is what you want!!! The service was awesome and they were very nice even the cook! They wait wasn't long and the chicken was still Hot when we made it home. Gus's Fried Chicken is worth the name and brand. It's some...
Read moreSo I'm a fan of Joellas so I was intrigued by the prospect of another great spicy chicken place. Let's be clear... there is no selection of spice level at all here, and it's marginally spicy at best.
My chicken came out 25 minutes after order which seems like an extraordinarily long time considering the menu was very narrowly focused on chicken only. The chicken itself was over cooked as the breading had almost hardened to cardboard consistency. I got the 2 piece white... Wing and breast. The breast, under the hard, Burned breading was surprisingly moist. The wing... had been so over cooked that it was just a shriveled bone. I maybe got half of one bite off it. The sides were clearly from a container and not made from scratch. Disappointing for a downtown place.
The ambience was typical of a local chicken place... blues or light rock on the speakers, white and red checkered table clothes. Not many patrons here despite my wife and I visiting on a Friday night dinner rush.
The staff was friendly enough and did their best. I'll give em points for that. However, Joellas being a competitor blows them away in terms of food quality.
Location is nice, downtown and walking distance to most stuff in Lex.
I likely won't return...
