I've always wanted to try afternoon tea and I'm so glad this was my first stop! (Maybe actually sad, because now my standards are too high.) Here's a complete run-through of my experience (warning: its long):
First, the team is super nice, professional, and accommodating. I made a mistake with my original reservation (picked the wrong day because apparently I can't read) and the team went out of their way to get me squeezed in to my actual desired date. Also even though it didnt happen to me, I want to mention that one of the staff ran after a customer after noticing they left the extra dessert the purchased and made sure they still got it! Just thought that was very considerate.
Food was great! The sweet bites I was offered that day were a caramel macaron (sweet but not extremely so, just as a macaron should be), a pumpkin pie bite (delightful and smooth, not grainy), and a lemon bar (again sweet and tart, but not so overpowering that you lose the lemon flavor). Scone was cranberry and orange, and paired nicely with the lemon curd and butter (though the butter was very hard to spread, the most minor of issues). The sandwiches I had all were served on bread that was still super soft, so I feel they are made fresh. All four (I got an extra) were tasty: chicken salad, pimento, red pepper and pesto (my favorite!), and prosciutto and brie.
Finally the tea. I got the Kentucky blend, which was a nice black tea mix. They give you a personal teapot, and you can get about 2.5 cups out of it (or at least I did). While more tea would have been nice, the amount they gave did last the entire meal. I will say I thought the tea got stronger as time went on, suggesting the leaves were probably still steeping and might have gotten over-steeped; of course, I could be imagining things. Just worth noting.
All in all, really would give this place 6 stars if I could. It was a phenomenal experience and I will most certainly be coming back (with company...
Read moreTwo months ago I booked an online reservation here for a bachelorette trip in May (4 months in advance). This experience was going to be one of the main experiences of our bachelorette weekend and we planned the rest of that day around this particular reservation. I received an email a few days ago from them telling me that they needed to move our reservation out by two hours to accommodate for a private event (an event that they allowed to be booked after our reservation had already been made). When I called for clarification I was advised that they had allowed the private event to double book during our time slot because they were “in a pinch” and couldn’t fit the private party elsewhere. Unfortunately we ended up having to cancel so our reservation and we will now have to search for a new experience to take its place. My 2 star review is solely based on the fact that we were supposed to be okay with being booted from our time slot to accommodate for somebody else who booked AFTER our reservation was already made. Seems like a poor business model. Hopefully they don’t charge my credit card with their cancellation fees since this is not our fault and the lady at the establishment stated there was no way to remove my information from...
Read moreLondon is my home away from home, and afternoon tea is one of my favorite social traditions. I make a point to try local tea services in every city I visit—so I’ve experienced a wide variety of presentations and interpretations. If there were ever an afternoon tea competition, I’d proudly be the Prue Leith.
That’s why I was so thrilled when Lexington Tea & Brie opened last year. The owner has done an incredible job putting her creative spin on this beloved British ritual. The service and presentation are top notch, with a beautifully curated selection of Kentucky teas and a robust, flavorful menu of tea sandwiches.
One of the things I love most is the ability to select your own tea sandwiches rather than being locked into a prix fixe menu. It’s perfect for those who want to customize their experience—or sample something new. And trust me, the sandwiches are so good, I’ve never left without ordering extra.
I’ve been nearly every month since they opened—sometimes more than once a month—and every visit is just as delightful as the last. If you haven’t been yet, make a reservation and treat yourself. Tea & Brie is hands down one of my favorite tea...
