GREAT place!. Would've been a 5 star experience if not for a few things. Both good and bad things posted here. Not much in the way of actually bad review, just a few annoyances. We will most definitely be coming back here thought when we come through lexington again. We don't really have anyplace serving curry or some other authentic Japanese dishes here in Louisville. Mostly steakhouses and sushi.
Good: food was amazing. The katsu curry, cutlets, everything was good! Very nice interior as well. Tasted authentic, possibly homemade. Not out of a package or microwaved. I'm a big fan of the Japanese style curry and I usually eat chicken but they only had beef so I decided to try that. The taste was amazing and everything I could've hoped for in this style of curry. Rice was soft and well cooked. Chicken cutlet was very moist on the inside but crisp on the outside. There was an older Japanese woman walking around on occasion, maybe the cook or manager/owner, possibly all 3? But she was elegant and poised and very nice when she brought some of the food out. The decency we were treated was great and just added to the vibe of thr place. Their cups seem to be from local brewers so free advertising for other local businesses was a nice touch as well which just makes me support them more. We will definitely be coming through again.
Bad: Server was mediocre. My partner and I were driving through and she knows how much I love authentic Japanese food and we pulled up at exactly 2pm. To find out they close from 2 to 5 pm. No where did we see those hours until you walk up to the door to see the sign up front. Waste of time there but it's whatever. Came back through a few days later and decided to try again, managing to get there before the closed for that 2-5 pm time. Just need to get a way to have the hours online and on Google updated. If not for those small annoyances, would've been a 5 star review. Would get 4.5 right now...
Read moreFood was average. No real complaints or standouts in that regard. The table was decorated with bows (made out of papier mache'?). They were cute, but served no identified function, such as tying the napkin around the silverware, or being used for chopstick rests. As such, they were in the way on our four topper table. They kept getting knocked onto the floor. Hopefully they get thrown away at night (possibly driving up restaurant operation costs in a needless fashion) rather than reused and causing a hygiene issue since paper can't be washed. And then the service. We were cramped at our four topper, and after making our selections, we asked the server to take the wine menu while she was removing the other menus so there would be more room. She refused and walked away. We had to remove it ourselves by placing it on a table they used to store extra napkins, etc. Later when one of our group asked for a sugar packet for her tea, she was given a long winded explanation about why the server wasn't going to bring her one, but would (in a gesture of great personal compromise to her integrity) bring my tablemate unrequested and unwanted agave syrup. My companion did not enjoy her tea, either before or after the addition of said syrup. I did not enjoy the attitude of the server. In summation. The Food was ok. The decor also ok-my tablemates and I had fun interpreting the abstract pictures on the walls, while we were confused about the purpose of the bows on the tables. Service was...less than agreeable. A knowledgeable server is a good thing. A knowledgeable server who doesnt listen to her patrons simple requests is a liability, and becomes the mainc reason for a...
Read moreFirst time experience during Lunch with some co workers. They had raved about the curry and honestly, it was very good. The toppings for the chicken were a bit sparse, however the flavor of the curry was great and had me wanting more. My coworkers discovered that the menu had recently changed, and the same orders they had been putting in before had increased in price. Still affordable, but I'd place it as average for Lunch.
The main problem I take with the location is the service and cleanliness. Leaves or something lay scattered upon the floor, neglectfully remaining not swept. The location had scarcely clean tables, and we had to seat ourselves in the back after venturing through a row of littered tables. It almost seemed like they were waiting until close to clean. The soda gun seemed to be on the fritz, and the waiter admitted that it seemed to be malfunctioning lately, so my co worker had to settle up for water. After the good food and the poor environment, we were met with a credit card fiasco where our cards had gotten mixed up.
Chaos ensured, as the server couldn't seem to fathom how to fix it and seemingly disappeared. This combined with the roughly thrown down drinks and plates left a bad experience in my mouth, despite the taste of the good food. This place has potential with the food, but not with the state of other aspects for...
