TLDR: The food is good humble food. Very limited menu. Local ingredients. Friendly staff. The Humble Plate lives up to its name. The food was good, simple, humble cooking. This is not the place where you'll get a 5 star flambe filet mignon with whipped potatoes, but you will get a solid, yummy plate of food. We went on a Thursday and I got the Thursday steak fajitas special. My partner got the local hamburger with bacon + kale on the side. The fajitas: I ordered without onion only because I don't like them and the chef was so kind to come and ask if I was allergic as the side of rice has onion in it as well. I also added a side of sour cream and nacho cheese as they don't normally come with the fajitas. The steak was cubed and cooked medium well to well. It was still moist and not chewy. The green peppers had the perfect amount of bite and char to be delicious. The rice was lacking on salt and a little underdone (a few of the pieces had a little crunch) but mixing in the nacho cheese and all the juice from the peppers and beef made it pretty tasty. Corn tortillas were freshly grilled. 8.5/10 The burger according to my partner was solid but nothing to write home about. The bacon and kale he got on the side was in desperate need of salt and could use a splash of acid (lemon, apple cider vinegar, or red wine vinegar would be awesome). He wished fresh cut fries were an option. 7.9/10 The menu is VERY limited with a new special each day so plan accordingly and look up what's happening each day. I finished the meal with some chocolate gelato which was great. The staff was highly attentive and friendly. There were only like 6 tables in the whole place and we were the only 2 eating in which I'm sure helped. There was a steady stream of to go door dash orders though.

Nice little out of the way spot for a quick, wholesome, and homemade meal. Super friendly staff and lots of regular, repeat customers. The Loaded Baked Potato was baked to perfection with a consistently soft and fluffy texture throughout and no charring of the outer skin. Adding a side of broccoli salad and or asparagus made for a very nice meal. The broccoli salad with raisins, bacon, carrots, sunflower seeds, onions, and sweet dressing is a nice fresh blend of flavors that complements the potato well. The roasted asparagus spears have a nice clean delicate flavor and a dusting of toasted sesame seeds. The homemade apple cobbler was the perfect opener for the meal (got it while waiting for the rest, by request). It is a batter style cobbler with fresh apples and cinnamon. The batter was very evenly cooked with a delicate crumb and not too sweet as the filling compensates well. Very well prepared and very delicious.

Stopped in for a late lunch and was surely impressed by it all. The tea, food, prices and ambiance. My husband and I had the steak fajitas. The steak was super tender and flavorful. Nothing fatty on them at all. One plate fed both of us with grilled veggies and a side of rice. So good you can even taste the cleanliness of the local food and produce. You are Supporting local area farmers when you eat here. The menu doesn’t give you many options, but they do have some special items everyday as well. Brussel sprouts, a Strawberry Walnut Salad with a homemade vinaigrette dressing, and Soups. I found my new favorite place to go out to eat. Can’t wait to try something else!

Once you get past the menu not having all items priced because the price of ingredients fluctuates, you will discover the food is excellent. We had the lamb burger, pasta salad and zuppa toscana soup. Every bite was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. And, the ice tea from the Charleston Tea Garden was outstanding! I do want to mention that we were so confused and frustrated by the lack of prices on the menu along with the waitress was very new and unable to answer questions that we almost left. The owner was kind enough to come out to explain the reason all items were not priced, gave us the current pricing as we asked about items and explained the meaning of the tiny hole in the corner of the locally made pottery plates we were eating from. She is very passionate about using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. The restaurant was clean. A suggestion to help customers be less confused would be to put a dry erase board up with the regular menu items along with the current pricing. There are daily specials on a board with a price. But, the soups and desserts listed on the same board had no prices. Even with that we were charged $10 for the lamb burger special when the price on the board was $9. We didn’t realize this until we got to the car and did not go back in to ask about it. We would return and...

I was really excited about eating here though I was warned about the owner being not too friendly and boy. Let me tell you that’s exactly what I found. It’s a cute little building off on the side of the road, but that’s about where it stops as you walk up. You see the amateur painting of what I assume was supposed to be bricks that I’m guessing his grandchildren painted on the ground, I have been here twice in the past week. I have heard him being rude to customers rude to his staff. I ordered the trout which tasted like it has been gotten from Golden corral my first time I went in to get something last week and the lack of professionalism customer service and respect to his staff and customers made me just leave. I don’t understand why any business like this is operating and Davidson county I hope someone has a better experience. Or he changes his ways other than that, there are far better places to eat with a better staff and definitely...
