I've never written a bad review...ever..and I hesitate to still write this because the majority of the staff was so kind. However, I believe writing this might help make things run more smoothly for the next time. My friend and I planned a day at the Pumpkin Patch with our families and got so excited when we saw Homegrown's Latte art! We were planning on coming in to get a coffee and then heading to the patch. When we walked in we noticed that it was more of a restaurant than a coffee shop so we asked one of the hostesses if it would be okay if we could go to the bar to just get a coffee, he said sure. We walked over to the bar and ordered our drinks and again checked with the baristas to see if it was okay to sit there. They said yes, but if someone came to eat breakfast, then they'd need to be sat. We said we understood. The latte art and latte were so yummy, and both baristas were so cool and kind. We were halfway in the middle of our coffee when another hostess came behind us and asked if we were a part of a party. We said no. She asked if someone sat us, and we said no, that the other hostess had said we could just come and get a coffee and that we also checked with the baristas if it was okay. She asked if we were going to eat, we again said no..her face got red and she asked very loudly(loud enough the bar side got quiet) where the manager was to another employee and stomped off. My friend who suffers from panic attacks started hyperventilating and shaking. I tried my best to assure her we did nothing wrong. Two gentlemen sitting beside us were also very appalled and asked what was wrong with us just sitting there and drinking coffee. We had no idea either. About 5 minutes later, the hostess came back and profusely apologized, saying it was a misunderstanding and that she thought we were with the large group that was still waiting to be set. The barista we had been talking to came up and said, " That's why I told them it was okay and that they just wanted coffee." The hostess just looked at her and left quickly. I still don't understand exactly what happened...and I honestly thought the place had such a cool vibe...one of the signs inside read "cultivate kindness" another one, "be kind" Most of the staff was truly that..but sometimes it takes one bad apple to ruin the...
Read moreSome of the other reviews use words like amazing food, Super-friendly staff, and that the place has a special Vibe. That is all true and is not overstated. This was our first time here. It is not surprising that there is often a long wait even though this place has not been open that long. It is that good.
It was black Friday and had my long truck and after fighting to find and fit into a parking place we had to park in the theater lot and walk. I walked in the door already frustrated. Our hostess, Izy I think, greeted and seated us. The warm, gracious and caring vibe started with her. She looked at me, talked to me and not at me, and was real and not fulfilling a role. This is very rare especially now with not enough workers to fill positions. We were seated and given menus and we looked them over for 5-10 minutes. We realized they must have overlooked us and so mentioned it to a passing server. We were immediately given water, coffee, and a complimentary coffee cake. Three separate individuals including the manager came by to apologize. Not because they had to or it was the right thing to do but you could feel that they were empathetic and imagined if they were in our seats. It was an amazing and very rare restaurant experience. This is just an example of the atmosphere.
At the risk of sounding new age or Whoo Hooo, this place has a spiritual energy that is palpable. These reviewers who have posted here that have resulted in a 4.6 rating I think are responding to this. The food tastes so much better when in the presence of those who are in the flow and value gratitude and appreciation of others more than profit. Skilled cooking staff and profits are necessary but it is a synergy here that truly is an example of lived spirituality. Organized religions should be so lucky.
I believe somewhere in the future as we evolve past guns, hatred, and war this type of caring interaction will be the norm. It will be an entirely different world with feelings of connectedness and value. Thank you staff of Homegrown Kitchen for being pioneers in this evolution. It gives me hope. Fantastic Food! Fantastic job. In...
Read moreTo begin, when we walked in we were greeted with a beautiful black women with short hair whose smile lite up the entire room and was totally infectious! She was so warm and welcoming… I’m kicking my rear for not catching her name. She then took us to our table, where Amanda and Kayla (trainee) took care of us. Both women were incredibly kind, welcoming, accommodating and understanding! To add to all of this, we didn’t tell our servers, but the kindness and positivity was extra appreciated by us on this particular day. Just before making our way to breakfast, my sisters and i had accompanied my mom while she had to put her sweet dog to rest to cross the rainbow bridge. After that heartache, we knew we needed to spend some more time with her to alleviate some sadness, so an impromptu breakfast was in order. We literally picked the perfect place to go! We walked into Home Grown (my first visit) and we’re surrounded by instant kindness and uplifting spirits the second we walked in. It is clear within 5 seconds of walking in that this is the marketing strategy/branding through signage but they are truly living it out…walking the walk and talking the talk! All 3 women were shining stars of light in what would have otherwise been a somber, gloomy day. Final additional thoughts: The service was wonderful, all of our needs were met and everything was done in a timely manner with great attention to details and a smile the entire time. The food was impeccable… tasted fantastic with beautiful presentation! We had the lemon French toast, eggs Benedict, BYOB and pork salsa verde something. It was all delish and flavorful. I also loved seeing the local partnerships that have been created for food & beverage supply, supporting local small business. I can’t say enough good! But I do want to give an extra big thank you to the 3 women whose kindness made a difference in our day. It is clear that your kindness exceeds the requirements of the job and is truly a way of life! You make the world a brighter place and we need more people like...
