🔥 Epic Meal Review: Saltgrass Steak House – Steak Salad + Voodoo Ranger IPA Combo 🔥
After a 13-hour haul from the scenic Blue Ridge of Asheville, NC to the quiet charm of Liberty, MO, I rolled into Saltgrass Steak House running on fumes and fast food fatigue. What I got instead was a five-star steak salad, an ice-cold IPA, and the kind of service that makes you believe in hospitality again.
The Center-Cut Top Sirloin Steak Salad is a straight-up flavor symphony. Tender, juicy sirloin cooked to perfection over crisp romaine, with roasted potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, flash-fried green beans (genius), black olives, onions, tomatoes, and just the right amount of blue cheese crumbles. That balsamic vinaigrette? A bold, tangy finish that brought it all home. It wasn’t a salad—it was a steakhouse masterpiece in a bowl.
Then came the Voodoo Ranger IPA, and it was everything a road-weary soul could ask for: crisp, hoppy, refreshing, and exactly what you want to sip when you’ve crossed three states and are finally ready to kick back.
But here’s where it went from great to unforgettable:
Enter Enrique the Just—a man who doesn’t just manage, he orchestrates an experience. Calm, confident, and cool as a mountain stream. He made sure everything was smooth, the vibes were right, and you could tell he takes pride in the place. A quiet legend.
And then, there’s Hannah the Bartender—honestly, she deserves her own review. Sharp, friendly, fast with a pour and even faster with a laugh. She knew exactly what to recommend, kept the energy light and welcoming, and had that rare mix of genuine warmth and bartender wisdom that makes you feel like you’ve been coming there for years—even if it’s your first time.

Final Verdict: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Incredible food. Ice-cold beer. Five-star service. Saltgrass in Liberty, MO turned a tired roadtrip pit stop into a straight-up highlight reel. Ask for Enrique. Sit at Hannah’s bar. Order the sirloin salad and a Voodoo. You’ll thank me...
Read moreSo, we just got back from a San Antonio vacation last week and we saw this restaurant on the side of the highway when down there. When we got back to Kansas City, I learned that there was one in Liberty. From the outside, it reminds me of a Texas Roadhouse or similar typical chain steakhouse. I said to the wife, "Let's give it a try." Well it most certainly lived up to its chain restaurant look in a bad way. The place was packed on a Monday night, probably because they have only been open 6 weeks. We immediately went to the bar to get a drink for our 30-minute table wait. The bar was out of St-Germaine so they couldn't make 50% of their signature cocktails. I overheard a manager say that "Texas has us with 6 servers, 1 dishwasher, and they were slammed." I knew the place was in the weeds already. The vibe of a restaurant being in scramble mode was everywhere. Surprisingly our wait was as advertised and we were sat within 30 to 35 minutes. It took another 10 minutes for our order to be taken. It took another 10 minutes for salad and soup to come out. The entrees followed 15 minutes later but the wife's order was wrong. She ordered a steak with a side of shrimp but the shrimp never left the boat and made it onto her plate. The 10oz ribeye was a large circumference and thus almost paper thin. How do you cook this steak medium rare? The Shrimp and Ribs entree was your typical "Off the Sysco food truck" fare. Then we got charged for 3 entree's. The manager did make the check right and took off an entree for our troubles. The poor servers were nice and apologetic. The manager (different from the one in the bar) mentioned the "Texas under staffed them" story. So we will not be returning to overpriced, underwhelming food in a Kansas City restaurant being run from Texas. Hey Texas, let the locals staff and order supplies for their own restaurant. What a joke. Take my advice folks. For a decent chain restaurant experience,...
Read moreThis experience was absolutely fantastic except for a hiccup, our server was Kennedy, she was polite, friendly, fantastic, and my Coke Zero and wife’s water never went empty. Our appetizer was the pickles and peppers, one of our favorites, my wife ordered the top sirloin, and I order the Cajun ribeye. As we were finishing up our salads, we saw a very nasty exchange between the general manager Vernon Blazek, who yelled at the very nice employee who had seated us. We were just off the main dining room, by the back 40 when my wife and I heard, and I saw the exchange. To which he yelled at her, GO HOME BYE! I was appalled. I have worked in the service industry for years as a new store opener for a major brand and had never seen such an unprofessional exchange in the eyes of the public right in front of the kitchen entry door. Our server promptly apologized.
When Vernon AKA Vern, came to the table to check on the temperature of our steaks, he asked if everything was to our liking. I promply stated that the food was perfect, but I saw the exchange and I thought it was extremely unprofessional. Instead of apologizing, he made every excuse as to why the employee had been making mistake after mistake, and it has been an ongoing issue. I informed him that it was neither the time nor the place on the main floor at dinner to make those kind of decisions or have those kind of conversations. He replied very snarky and sarcastically, I’m sorry to have ruined your dining experience and simply walked away. The most unprofessional, excuse giving, unaccountable general manager I have never encountered.
Had it not been for Kennedy and the team our dining experience would have been extremely unpleasant. We enjoy this place often, and if you read my reviews I don’t leave bad ones, but this rubbed me the wrong way. We will be back and try again, due to the efforts of the amazing server Kennedy and the rest of the...
