This restaurant is off Cook Ave in downtown Libertyville and has its own lot (but if busy, parking is tight. However, there is a public lot across the street and there is street parking if you can find any. The restaurant has a bar area with seating on the north side of the entryway and a dining room with a smaller bar on the south side of the entryway. It is part of the Rosebud Restaurant group.
We came with friends for a night out and the service could not have been more friendly. Our server was extremely helpful as the menu has no descriptions of anything on it. It's just a list of their items. No ingredients. No sides, no sauces, no anything. So of course, our server was there to help with any questions.
I have attached a photo of the menu so you can see for yourself. No descriptions whatsoever.
My wife and I split the caesar salad while the other couple split a beet salad. Our server split the beet salad table side and let us split our own salad. We thought that was weird, why split one salad but not the other?
I ordered the chicken piccata (what I always order when I eat at an Italian restaurant for the first time). I had to ask if it came with a side of potatoes or pasta. The server said pasta. Okay. Great.
My wife got eggplant Parmesan (as did one of our friends) and they came with pasta as well. They have a gluten-free penne pasta which my wife got instead. And the other person in our party got chicken marsala.
To say that both chicken dishes were absolutely swimming in sauce would be a total understatement. Mine should have been a lemon white wine sauce and instead it was insanely buttery. His should have been a red wine sauce but it was a thick brownish red goo. Both chicken dishes had juicy chicken but you couldn’t taste them as each sauce was overpowering every other flavor.
When our entrees arrived, the pasta wasn’t on each respective plate. They were brought separately in their own small bowls. All the side pasta came in its own marinara sauce. What?!
My chicken piccata had buttery white wine sauce and the pasta came with marinara. Same with the chicken marsala. Our friend asked for plane pasta and I should have done the same. The mixture of flavors and textures was off putting. Why do restaurants insist on giving marinara sauce. Just put the damn pasta on the plate in the sauce already prepared for the dish. I mean, what was all that extra sauce for anyway.
We opted to skip dessert and sat and chatted. The restaurant closes at 11pm on Saturday night and it was 9:40pm when they dining room was empty except for us. The servers and bussers made a very exaggerated show of cleaning, vacuuming, and banging around in the restaurant’s way of telling you to leave without really telling you to go.
Like I mentioned earlier, our server was extremely helpful due to the menu’s lack of any description of dishes whatsoever.
The food was just okay and with so many options, there are others I’d prefer to go to before I would go back for chicken drowning in sauce. Next time put the pasta on the plate to at least act as life savers for the chicken.
Service was great, ambience was nice,...
Read moreThis is an absolute must when in Libertyville or the surrounding area! We visited Coppolillo's to formally celebrate the graduation of our son from Navy boot camp. Reservations over the phone were easy and our party of five was readily accommodated on a Saturday night. Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly and hospitable. They made it a point to congratulate our newly minted sailor and thanked him for his service. They made him feel very special and it was greatly appreciated by our entire family. Marco was our server. He was attentive and eager to make our dinner an experience. Was it ever! For an appetizer, we split the lamb chops. If you eat here, seriously consider it because its buttery tenderness sets a high bar. In our party had both the pepper-crusted New Year strip and the aged Italian steak. Both entrees were to die for and would rival a high-end steakhouse in quality of the meat and preparation. I would be hard-pressed to recommend one over the other. Order both and share! The ladies of the party enjoyed the rigatoni in vodka sauce which also earned high marks for the rich creamy sauce. The portions are generous which makes it difficult to leave room for desert. Our desert was on the house as a "Thank You" for the service of our sailor. Again, it was a gesture very much appreciated and by no means expected or taken for granted. The restaurant itself has an atmosphere of fine dining. At a time when eateries must watch their cost, Coppolillo's offers white-linen table cloths and napkins. It added to the ambience and the atmosphere of our celebration and is indicative of the level of quality Coppolillo's is striving for. If you are in this area and are looking for a dining experience to exceed your expectations, please give serious consideration to Coppolillo's. We can recommend this restaurant without reservation. With that, all that remains to be said is "Thank You" to the staff of Coppolillo's for making this evening of celebration special and...
Read moreI found 2 gems in the night life of Libertyville. Coppolillos Italian Steak house has it all and Carey the server making sure it happens. Great food and service. I’ve been all over the world trying different cuisine experiencing different types of service with that cuisine. And let me tell you, you will not find a more superb representative of their establishment than Carey. She was very attentive, knowledgeable, and amazing. She made us feel like we were the only table in the house. She first recommended cocktails and especially their signature old fashion. That is my cocktail of choice. It was like Carey was reading our minds. I had 2 old fashions which were consistently fantastic. Great recipe. She was on her game with wine pairing and menu knowledge. She educated us on all the steak and pastas letting us know to have at least one pasta dish for the table with our steaks. I selected the Del Monaco thanks to her for which I couldn’t have been more happy with my choice enjoying every bite.
Besides her recommendations just her personality and soul were on full display. Her smile lights up the room. Not only was she entertaining us but she was making sure the guests around us were being takin care of as well. Customer service is a lost art nowadays but you can find it at Coppolillos if you ask for Carey to be your server.
So many highly touted establishments with high reviews have disappointed me but Carey made Coppolillos a place to frequent over and over again. I will definitely inform my local clients about Coppolillos and to not forget to request Carey for the ultimate experience. Thank you Carey for making our first visit a memorable one. It won’t...
