Was a beautiful day for a season ending motorcycle ride so my wife rode up towards the Wisconsin border stopping off at Hansa coffee shop to check it out. This shop is in Libertyville and has a primo location right across from the Metra train station. Sharing the same parking lot. We arrived there around 12:30 Sunday afternoon and the shop was busy with a continuous flow of customers in and out We elected to have our coffee inside which is well stocked with seating. However this is where I knocked a star off as I was looking for some level of comfort -coziness. This happens to not be the case. The shop is in what looks to me like a converted garage at one time and the main seating area has three huge overhead garage doors along one wall. The temperature at the time was 65 degrees outside which made for a beautiful fall day for a motorcycle ride but not so beautiful as a sit down cozy interlude to enjoy a cup of coffee To make things worse they fully opened one of the overhead doors while we were there . It was chilly and all those there had to enjoy their coffee with their sweaters and jackets on. I am sure that something must be done in the wintertime to mitigate the chill The choice of bakery products was very meager to say the least and since they are open until 9 pm then the food offerings should have reflected that. Meaning an adequate supply of the food offered and not be depleted at the noon hour. The staff was plentiful and everyone we came in contact with was pleasant and nice It is obviously a well patronized local establishment that is well known in the community and a gathering spot...
Read moreWas looking for a place to meet a friend that was between her and my house. Found Hansa’s on Google Maps and was excited when I saw all the coffee options, alternative milk options, and pastry options!
When you pull into the parking lot it seems as there is not enough parking, but as you drive further back you’ll see there is enough.
As you go to right of the garage doors you’ll enter a small little coffee shop enough for maybe 10 people to stand comfortably and a small lounge area for about 4 people to sit and wait.
As you are greeted by the pastry display case you get to choose from so many different items.
I chose the Meyer’s Lemon Scone and a Chocolate Chip Cookie. The scone was perfect! I enjoyed the sweetness of the lemon drizzle on top. The Chocolate Chip Cookie was really good, but not my favorite, still looking for the best in Chicagoland.
My friend purchased a Cinnamon Roll and a Caribbean Pecan Muffin. She devoured the CR right away and enjoyed every bite. It seems to be a popular item.
We both ordered the Cold Brew with Oat Milk. It was so smooth and delicious!
Overall this place was amazing and I would drive the hour to go here often.
I also really loved Libertyville! It was my first time visiting, but won’t...
Read moreThe coffee is fantastic - some of the best I've ever had, in fact. Everything from specialty drinks to regular ol' joe on tap is phenomenal. Refills on in-house regular brews are free, and the in-house brews are a tad cheaper than at other shops in the area.
Customers can donate coffee to our servicemen and women overseas. This is a great initiative and the servicemen and women have expressed appreciation for Hansa's customeres' generosity and partnership with them. Everybody wins.
The only drawbacks to Hansa (Libertyville) are that it can be quite busy, and if you are meeting someone or want to grab a seat, it can be difficult during peak hours. The WiFi is spotty, too. For example, it died while I was in the middle of writing this review and I had to repost.
But the fact that I and a lot of people are still here should only reinforce for you, reader, how good this place is.
I am moving out west soon and plan to order Hansa coffee to share with the office at my new place of employment. That should tell you...
