I love that 402 Creamery has a non-dairy/non-exploitive Vegan ice cream (peanut butter chocolate chip) standing out as the best vegan ice cream I have had in Lincoln! So, so creamy and delicious! Other ice cream shops may have a vegan option, but many times, it's not even ice cream; it's more like frozen juice. However, for a while now, 402 Creamery has been guilty of ONLY having this single flavor option!! About a month ago, I was ordering my animal secretion-free ice cream, I encouraged the 402 Creamery staff person, who appeared to be female, to make and offer other vegan options in their establishment. This person's response was something like "vegan ice cream is very difficult to make" and said nothing more to indicate whether or not they were going to do this. I thought about her statement "difficult to make", but somehow we (human animals) continue to project a much greater "difficulty" on sentient animals we view as a commodity. With our continued use of dairy we exploit the female reproductive system of a sentient animal (dairy cow) that involves intense animal confinement, repeated artificial impregnation without consent, multiple separations of the calf and it's mother, the killing of a male calf because it is a dairy byproduct etc. Don't just take my word, Google standard dairy farm practices. Watch 'Dairy is Scary' on YouTube to become more informed. When a person is informed they are then in the position to make better decisions. Please be mindful, just because something is a normal part by Society now, does not morally justify it. There have been several things in the history of America that were a normal part of society and we no longer practice those things because we profess to be more civilized. Some of this information may be very new to those reading this review. Let It Be known, I have written to the owners to inform them of the animal exploitation associated with dairy and asked them to be a courageous Community leader in Lincoln by going all Vegan with their ice creams. They wrote me back and said they would not do this and if I attempted to write them again they would not respond; they may not respond to this either and that's okay. Vegan peace and love. FYI update I visited the telegraph location on June 14th and they had 2 vegan options! The newest option was called The Daily Grind which is fitting for me because I am a full-time animal rights vegan activist! So please, show your support for vegan options which are more sustainable, inclusive (lactose intolerant), kinder to Earth and animals both domestic & wild! (Sorry for the lack of personal pictures; I was intending on taking a picture of the ice cream, but once I took a bite I forgot until it...
Read moreThis place is a new favorite of ours! We come in to try new seasonal flavors and some of their originals every chance we get. All ice creams are made in house in their modest little kitchen with mostly scratch ingredients...they even make their own cakes, cookies, ganache, waffle cones etc. These small batches of high quality ingredients makes this some of the BEST ice cream we have ever had. Scoops are available in dishes, 3 kinds of cones, and they even have a wonderful tasting option (dine in only) that allows you to indulge in smorgasbord of treats or enough to share with others. There is only room for a dozen chairs and few tables, so most people drop in for a scoop and take it to go. Their prices are a little higher than your average shop, but they reflect the quality, time, and effort put in to every spoonful....AND SO WORTH EVERY PENNY! Service is always friendly and knowledgeable about gluten free, dairy free, and even vegan options. If you like ice cream, this...
