I have been eating at El Potro since they first opened last year but thought I would share one of my favorite spots with all of you. This is a locally family owned and operated restaurant. The atmosphere and staff are very inviting however the food is really, really good. Everything is made in house and served fresh.
Tonight I tried some menu items I have never had here. The Pollo Tropical is my new favorite menu item. The fish was light and flaky accompanied with rice and fresh grilled veggies. The portion was definitely designed for a much larger appetite than mine. I also tried the Tacos de Asada also very tasty and the meat (I tried the chicken steak and pork) was so tender it disappeared very quickly. The third dish I tasted was their Ordan de Ceviche. Usually cevichi is served pretty spicy. This was not the case. It had a mild flavor and if you like shrimp cocktail, chances are you will enjoy it.
To finish the meal off I tried sopapillas, churros and flan. The flan was a light, creamy custard that melted in my mouth. I will definitely order it again sometime.
If you have eaten here, you already know how good it is and I swear every time I eat here it gets better. If you have never been here stop in and give them try. I highly recommend them!
P.S. No I did not eat it all, just tasted and took home all the leftovers to...
Read moreWe tried El Potro for the first time on Sunday, Aug 22 at about 6 pm. The dining room wasn't overly busy and there was one server working the tables. We received chips and salsa upon arrival. The chips were crunchy and not oily at all and the salsa was a good medium range. I ordered the Trio Enchiladas and my husband ordered the El Nayarit (a shrimp and crab quesadilla and a shrimp and crab enchilada). My trio was chicken, beef, and cheese. All were delish, but the chicken was outstanding. The chicken was flavored with a spicy kick and the queso on the top cooled it off perfectly. The El Nayarit was exploding with tasty shrimp. Both meals were excellent. The margarita of the day was a watermelon jalapeno, but we didn't try it. Just wanted to add that in so you know they have different flavors to explore. Our server was very helpful, pleasant, and prompt. He was constantly moving around the dining room but didn't give his customers the feel that he was overwhelmed. We felt it was a great value for the price and the service was outstanding. This is our new go-to Mexican restaurant. You definitely need to give El Potro a try. (I apologize for the photo....I ate half of before I thought to take a picture. It...
Read moreI spent $78 here and got completely ripped off. Ordered carne asada, and what I received was a dry, fatty steak with zero flavor. That is NOT carne asada—it’s supposed to be skirt steak. No problem, I thought, I’ll just call them. When I did, instead of owning up or offering to fix it, I was argued with for five minutes by an older lady who yelled at me about how “no one ever complains.” She even demanded I bring the steak back from my job. Are you serious?
This kind of response shows a total lack of business-minded thinking—customers should never be argued with over a legitimate concern. For the money I spent, I expected at least one quality meal and at least respectful customer service. Never again.
For clarity: flank/skirt steak (real carne asada) comes from the cow’s underside and offers a lean, flavorful cut. What I was given was top round, which is from the hind leg and is much leaner, tougher, and absolutely not carne asada. Hopefully this town realizes your restaurant lies to customers.
P.S. The rest of the food had no flavor either. My coworkers all hated it. El potro...
