Both times we’ve come this summer have been such a poor experience. The first time we waited over two hours for our food because they never put in our tickets and no one ever came to check in on us. Once the owner got called in, she did make things right in terms of getting our food done and apologizing, but it was absolutely wild how no one seemed to notice or care that we were just sitting there for two hours without food. It wasn’t busy and many tables who came in after us got their food on time and were waited on. It was four of us. Today we came in with reservations for our party of seven and when the waitress took her order, she wrote it all down on a piece of paper which was great. We made it pretty simple by having three of us get the exact same thing even one of the orders was just a small cup of soup. She proceeds to come back 20 minutes later and ask us if we can all repeat our orders to make sure it’s all right, but doesn’t have a pen and paper in her hand and just leaves after we repeat ourselves. Then she comes another 25 minutes later and says sorry something is wrong, It’s not adding up..can you please go over it again? so I stepped aside from the table and I make sure she has it all written down correctly on the piece of paper and she apologizes and sends it back to the kitchen. Half an hour goes by and the food starts coming out however, every food item is missing a main part of the meal. For example, the Swedish pancakes don’t come with whip cream, the monte cristo didn’t come with syrup or the lingonberry’s, the sandwich we ordered didn’t come with lettuce like we asked and when we said that, she just said sorry and didn’t even go get the lettuce. We asked for silverware and she only brought three but all of us needed a napkins so I had to say well all of us need a napkin..could we please get more silverware as they were attached to the napkin. Even though we were a larger party, we weren’t complicated and this exact same thing happened with a smaller group of 4. The waitress apologized but to have every single item come out wrong, to not even put the order in for over an hour, to repeat ourselves 3 times, and to have it all come out separately was really sad. This place needs more staff or just staff who have better attention to detail. I hate writing reviews like this for small businesses but this is unacceptable to happen...
Read moreI attended a tea party here recently, food was tasty, as well as a very good variety of finger sandwiches, and delicious tomato soup. The young gentleman waiting on us did a fantastic job, and for his first day! The issue I have is with the woman telling each of us as we paid that "gratuity is expected". This comment altered my experience, which up to that point had been good. A business should never say "gratuity is expected", but rather gratuity is appreciated. I even overheard her say to a customer, "20% is the usual amount". Shame on you for asking/expecting more, while really you should be grateful for each customer that walks through your door each day, and appreciate what they can afford to give based on service.
In response to your comments regarding my review: We were fully aware of the cost per person and that gratuity would be our responsibility. There was never a misunderstanding on this. Like I said in my review, my issue was with how it was addressed to each customer. In my opinion it is highly unprofessional to tell a customer "gratuity is expected". Everyone that has ever eaten out obviously knows what gratuity is and should be allowed to decide on their own if they want to tip, can afford to tip or feel the service deserves a tip. Instead you could say "gratuity is appreciated" with a smile, which is a much friendlier statement, and would probably be received better. Remember gratuity is not a mandatory payment, it is optional, no matter...
Read moreMy family and I visited for a special event - one of Gustaf's high teas. It was a lovely day. We arrived promptly at 3:30 and were led to our table with finger sandwiches and scones waiting for us. We were served three different types of teas : Jasmine Mint, Prickly Pear, and Mulberry Blackberry. All of the teas were wonderful in their own way, but I enjoyed the Prickly Peak the most. There were three varieties of scone and three different types of sandwiches. Unfortunately, my own pickiness prevented me from enjoying the sandwiches, but everyone else at the table loved them. There was egg salad, a ham and cream cheese with pickle relish roll up, and I believe a ham sandwich with tomato, sprouts, and avocado. (Gustaf's corrected my understanding - this was actually a turkey sandwich). We were also served a tomato bisque, which was very tasty, although I generally prefer mine more blended. We finishdd up with a spectacular cheesecake. The service was excellent, and we were rarely without full tea cups. I would definitely be interested to try their full menu, but I strongly recommend their high tea. Reservations in advance...
