My daughter and I had this restaurant on our “need to try” list for a couple of years now and finally had the occasion to go this past weekend. Parking was tight although the restaurant was not too crowded at 5:30 on a Saturday. We wanted to make it in time for happy hour as we’d read online that some apps were $5 during this time. Apparently that info was out of date as it has since increased to $7. Still, we each ordered an app to share. The truffled deviled eggs that everyone raves about, and the cheese spaetzle. I had a German grandmother so I had high expectations for the spaetzle. I’m sorry to say, both were disappointing. Perhaps we just don’t like the taste of truffle but we were both put off at first bite. I ended up eating all of them for both of us because I hate being wasteful and I was burping up truffle for the rest of the night. The spaetzle was like a sweet macaroni and cheese. We didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t what we expected and not that great. With the appetizers I also had a cocktail. It was okay. It was 4 oz and cost $10. For the main courses my daughter ordered the bratwurst platter and I ordered the Svickova which is fun to say but again did not quite meet expectations. The roast beef was tender, the root veg sauce had a weird flavor and was cold. The dumplings were terrible. I wouldn’t even call them dumplings, they were hardened bread pucks. My daughter’s brats were pretty good although nothing spectacular like you would expect from house made. The best part of the whole meal was probably the fried potatoes that came with the brats but even those had to be seasoned at the table. The service was good, our waiter was nice. Overall, though, we left feeling somewhat deflated and this is one of those one and done restaurants that we’ve ticked...
Read moreI've eaten at The Pantry a number of times over the years, and can safely say that it is always among the best choices for food in Little Rock. It doesn't matter what you get, it will be amazing.
The appetizers are varied, everything from dates, to eggs, to even brussel sprouts. Nothing here is to miss. Do yourself a favor and order two or three of them. You won't be disappointed.
Their main course menu has no slackers, either. This is old world European cuisine, and, as such, is simple, yet full of flavor and depth. Sometimes less is more, and it is on full display here. It is, quite simply, delicious comfort food from the other side of the pond.
The rustic bowl is absolutely a must have. Chicken paprikash, coq au vin, etc...it changes daily. It begs multiple visits to try out their latest.
Please leave room for dessert as well. I've tried most, and can say that they're all very, very good. My favorites, though, are the cheesecake and the crepes, but again, you're not going to be disappointed in whatever you choose.
I can't say all this about the food without mentioning the service as well. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. Their candor and professionalism is exactly what you would expect from an eatery like this.
I've been to The Pantry many times, and I always leave looking forward to...
