A very disappointing experience. From the internet information and the reviews we expected quite a different experience. Their menu is extensive and reasonably priced. The day that we arrived prime rib was the special of the day. Our meal started out okay but then started to go downhill. We started with the crab bisque and a salad which were delightful and were served in a reasonable amount of time. We should have gotten the clue of what was to happen after that when the waiter did not even know what salad dressings were available. We arrived shortly after 5:30 and there were only approximately a half a dozen other tables occupied. We placed our order at 5:45 of the prime rib special and the grouper sandwich with fries. An hour later we were still waiting for our entrees to arrive. When they did arrive the grouper sandwich which was approximately 4 oz on an ordinary hamburger roll was served without fries and without any tartar sauce. When we inquired about the fries Chavez our waiter stated that he thought that we meant to replace the fries with the salad yet he never asked if that's what we wanted to do. We told him that we would still like to have fries with the sandwich so he went back to the kitchen and came back about 5 or 10 minutes later and said that the fries should be out in a short time. When asked how much time that was he said they're just dropping them now. We told him to forget the fries. The prime rib was served without any ajou and we had to ask another waiter for some since our waiter never stopped back to find out how things were going. The roasted red potatoes were certainly that. Very well roasted, dry, and cold. I suspect our waiter was new, undertrained, overworked or all of the above. There should be no reason for the special of the day and a sandwich to take over an hour to arrive especially since it appeared the kitchen wasn't being taxed when we placed the order. We suspect he just forgot about the order until we inquired about it and it had been sitting for some time waiting to be picked up. I hope this was an isolated case but in our case it was not isolated and we did not have a very good evening or a good meal. Considering that our check came to over 70 dollars we expected a...
Read moreWe have eaten here 3 times now and every time the drinks, food and service were great. On the latest occasion, July 20, we had several different cocktails and all were tasty but the stand outs were the warrant and the some beach. Salads with homemade blue cheese dressing were served crisp and cold and in a timely fashion. Our dinners were the chicken marsala and the coffee seasoned ribeye. The chicken was good but the steak was the standout. All the sides were delicious but the mac and cheese served in its own little crock was the best I've had in a long time. Chocolate mousse desert was wonderful
but the creme brulee was even better. Service was exceptional. Our cocktail and water glasses never got empty. A great evening with my beautiful wife, wonderful food and a great atmosphere. Please support this local gem to help keep them thriving!
Update, 08/16/25, another great experience at the 406. We spent 2 hours in the bar with mixologist Renee, who is the absolute best "Dollar General" Old Fashion cocktail maker in the Suwannee, Lafayette, Taylor, Madison, Columbia county area. Please go see her. She is so much fun, loves to party, is full of life and has a wonderful spirit. She is a responsible server who makes sure that her patrons are having a good time but are not over served. We then moved to the newly redecorated dining room to have dinner. The tables are bright and clean and the chairs are a beautiful green with blue backing that perfectly matches the wall colors and other decor. I had the pork ribeye steak and it was easily the most tender and flavorful piece of pig I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked and had a mushroom marsala sauce on it that was good, but was a little over salted and could have benefited from a little more wine and a touch of heavy cream. But, to be fair, great job chef with cooking that pork steak. Our server, Kelli, was fantastic. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure that we were well taken care of. The owners, David and Ashleigh, have a lot of good going on and are tweaking things to make them ever better. Go by and support this great...
Read moreWe made a reservation for 5:00 tonight to have a nice dinner for Valentine’s Day. Since we live nearly an hour away, we made a special trip based on the wonderful reviews.
When we arrived, the hostess (who happens to be the owner) looks at us for an extended amount of time and says …you don’t have a reservation. My husband politely looked at her and said yes ma’am we do. She then says I’ll take you back here “where it’s more appropriate”. I asked my husband what she said and he just waved me to follow. We were led past several open tables in the main dining area which were large enough to accommodate our party, and instead were taken to the back corner of the bar area, which was not very nice at all.
My problem with this is the fact THAT WE WERE THE ONLY MULTI RACIAL PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE BUILDING AND SHE SAID SHE WANTED TO PUT US IN AN APPROPRIATE AREA… Is that the area for black and Asian people???
My second complaint is since we were in the bar area we overheard the loud conversation between a female waitress and the male owner. She thought it was appropriate to say we would be playing panty dropping music if it were my playlist….the male owner then said he wants to see proof… then goes on to say he’s about to take his panties off…. IN FRONT OF MY KIDS!!! WHO SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SEATED IN THIS AREA TO BEGIN WITH!!!
I would have asked to speak to someone regarding these issues but since they both involved the owners it didn’t make sense to do so.
The steak and waitress were fantastic…The chicken not so much. The glasses smelled like body odor and we had to have all of our drinks replaced repeatedly. We even had our waitress smell the glasses to confirm the odor.
We considered leaving but since it was Valentine’s Day, and we drove an hour, and all other restaurants were booked or had long lines, we couldn’t find anywhere else to go.
It is a shame that this happened as we thought this would be a place we could return to many times. Unfortunay, we will not...
