I was expecting this Denny’s experience to be like any other, but this experience really ruined it for me. Here’s why:
My experience at Denny's in Livermore at 12:30 in the morning was nothing short of disappointing. As someone who has enjoyed late-night dining on numerous occasions, I had certain expectations that were far from met during this visit. Upon arrival, the ambiance of the restaurant immediately felt off. It lacked the warmth and comfort that Denny's typically provides, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere from the get-go. The small crowd, consisting of a few late-night diners, didn't receive the attention you would expect at such a quiet hour, hinting at the lackluster service that would soon become more evident.
The most glaring issue of my visit came with the quality of the food. I ordered a traditional breakfast plate that included bacon, eggs, and hash browns, hoping for a hearty, satisfying meal. However, what I received was far from appealing. The bacon was burnt to a crisp, rendering it almost inedible. Instead of the crispy yet tender texture one expects, it was like chewing on charcoal. To make matters worse, the smoothie I ordered was incredibly watered down, lacking both flavor and the creamy consistency one would anticipate. It was as if they had diluted it excessively, hoping no one would notice in the early hours.
Moreover, the service left much to be desired. Despite the low number of patrons, the waitstaff seemed disinterested and sluggish. After finally getting our server's attention, placing the order felt like a lengthy ordeal. Follow-up requests, such as asking for a replacement for the burnt bacon, were met with indifference, only adding to the frustrating experience. Read moreWe stood at the front waiting to be seated and after about 10 minutes without any acknowledgement of us and another couple walked in and one of the ladys at the front told them to just sit anywhere. So we figured it was that way for everyone. So we went after them and sat ourselfs. The waitress came over and asked with an attitude" if we just sat ourselfs". Then she said " well Im not on the clock but I'll help you anyway" once again with attitude. We ordered our food and I had mentioned that I did not want any butter on my pancakes not once , not twice , but 3 times in a row after I noticed that she did not write that down on my order. She said she " got it ". Well 25 minutes go by and we recieved our food and I'll be darned if butter was on my pancakes. When I reminded her that I had asked for no butter she said she would take care of it. No apology at all. 5 minutes go by and she brings me not new pancakes but my old ones after scooping the butter off and flipping them over. Then when my guest grabed my plate and spoke to her about it the waitress then reordered new pancakes. They were ok but I recieved them pretty much after eating my eggs and sausage. I can not understand how a food server can screw up such a simple request and then try Not to correct it but try to hide it instead. There are alot of peolple who have food alergies or dietary restrictions and they need to be aware of this issue. The manager was exceptionally attentive, making rounds to check in on tables, ensuring everyone was happy, and clearly leading by example with a calm, professional, and genuinely friendly demeanor. My waitress, Elizabeth, was absolutely phenomenal — she had the perfect balance of efficiency, kindness, and personality that made the whole meal more enjoyable. She greeted me with a big smile, made excellent menu recommendations, and kept my coffee filled without me ever having to ask, all while managing multiple tables with grace. The food came out fresh, hot, and exactly as ordered, and you could tell that extra care was taken to make sure everything was right. Elizabeth checked in just the right amount — attentive without hovering — and her upbeat, positive energy was infectious. What really impressed me was how the entire team seemed in sync; there was no chaos, just smooth service and genuine hospitality. I left not only satisfied with my meal but also feeling like I had just been taken care of by people who truly enjoy what they do.
