We recently dined at Sons of Liberty and had an overall delightful experience, although we encountered a recurring theme with spiciness that diners should be aware of.
We began with the Deviled Eggs featuring a miso filling, chili crunch, lightly pickled cucumber, and scallion. Unfortunately, the chili crunch was too spicy for my wife, who isn't a fan of heat. This became a recurring theme during our meal, so be sure to ask about spiciness when ordering.
For her main course, my wife had the Spinach and Berry Salad, which included organic spinach, pickled blueberries, strawberries, Laura Chenel goat cheese, toasted almonds, and lemon poppy seed dressing. She added shrimp, which turned out to be spicy as well. However, our server promptly replaced them with a non-spicy alternative, showing great attentiveness.
I opted for the Crispy Baby Back Ribs, which were glazed with orange and soy sauce, topped with scallions and sesame seeds. They had a slight kick but were delicious. The highlight of our meal was the Mac n' Cheese, loaded with sharp cheddar, gouda, gruyere, and garlic herbed breadcrumbs. It was the best Mac n' Cheese we have ever had.
We also enjoyed a bottle of wine from our new favorite winery, 3 Steves, which complemented our meal perfectly.
Impressed by our dinner, we returned for brunch a few days later. I had the Smoked Brisket Hash with fried marble potatoes, caramelized onions, roasted red, yellow, and poblano peppers, pico de gallo, avocado, house crema, poached eggs, and cilantro. It was flavorful and satisfying. My wife had the Baked Hashbrown Gratin, consisting of cheesy hashbrowns with a cornflake crumb and chives. Unfortunately, the cornflake crumb had an unexpected kick, again posing an issue for her. It was also very runny, not what you would think of a hash brown gratin.
Despite the spiciness challenges, the quality of the food at Sons of Liberty was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the attentive service. Just be mindful of the spice levels when ordering if you're...
Read moreThis was our first time here, we came for lunch on Father's Day with my boyfriend and his mother. We were all pleased with our whole experience from start to finish. The hostess was very friendly and seated us inside. The atmosphere is beautiful and the service was on point. We ordered the artichoke jalapeno dip (which is always a favorite of mine) and garlic Parmesan fries to start. Both were mouth watering! The dip, served with baguette slices was flavorful and rich. And the fries were delicious as well, lots of garlic and they were cooked to perfection. For our main course, I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I had been craving a good soup sandwich combo and this hit the spot! And let me say this had to have been the largest grilled cheese I had ever seen! Another thing that stood out to us, were the portions. We all left there absolutely stuffed and still had leftovers! My boyfriend got the duck carnitas tacos. The flavor was fantastic and the meat was very moist. The tacos looked more like tostadas because they were piled high with a good portion of meat and goodies on top. Lastly, my mother in law ordered the Chinese chicken salad which was also fantastic and so large she couldn't finish it either!
We enjoyed this spot more than we were expecting, because for mid day on a Sunday there were very few customers inside compared to the packed restaurant next door and it made us sceptical. But regardless of the traffic, we had a great time here! We will definitely be back!
P.S. best Arnold...
Read moreWalking into this place, it definitely was a lot more than what I expected in Livermore. Seating is limited inside the restaurant, but they have a communal seating area near the bar and they also have outdoor seating when it's warm out.
Two of us ordered the grilled cheese with tomato soup and another ordered the fried chicken sandwich with garlic fries. All were delicious. The garlic fries had a hefty amount of garlic, which was great, but it was a little salty to our liking. The grilled cheese was very crispy and dipped into the tomato soup to soften it up, a great combo. The wife and her friend also ordered some mixed drinks and they said that they were delicious, wifey ended up with a second. Pricing is a bit on the higher side, it seemed as though all items were about $17 or more per item, so this isn't a place I could visit weekly. But thank you for the fantastic food and...
