The spinach and feta turnovers are amazing, but are difficult to get as they sell out quickly. We stopped in a few days ago and were unable to get them again. I asked if we could place an order and was told yes. The young lady at the register took our order and we just stopped in to pick them up. The same young Lady was there and recognized us. She went to the baker/manager who told her that he had not baked enough for our order. So placing an order was pointless. I asked to speak to said manager who attempted to blame all the 'new staff members' he is training. I have worked in bakery food service for over 30 years and the first step to every day after turning on your ovens is checking your orders. Any idiot should know that. This weak excuse and the offer of other items that we did not specifically order were ridiculous. We made a special trip on a crappy weather day because we had placed this order and it was a waste of our time. Insincere apologies don't cut it in my book. We will not be giving this establishment another chance. What a...
Read moreYears ago this used to be the Breadsmith, which made excellent bakery products, until Joe's Produce took it over. If you went there in the morning you could get a warm loaf fresh out of the oven. Many times they couldn't' slice it because it was too warm. Breadsmith never had day old bread because they would give it away. The Art of Bread seemed to try to imitate Breadsmith, but never really came close. I go to the the Art of Bread occasionally because there are no other bakeries nearby. None. Their breads are almost certainly not sold straight from the oven. They are always tough, dry and chewy. I'm guessing they make large batches ahead of time, freeze them, and then thaw them and sell them as "fresh made". If that is not the case, bless them, then they have a long way to go to making a high quality bread. If you live in the area and want a top notch, fresh made bakery bread, you are much better off going to Whole Foods at 14 and Orchard Lake or Boule Artisan Bakery on Ann Arbor Trail...
Read moreThis is the most UNPROFESSIONAL establishment I’ve ever encountered. Placed a special bread order for the day after thanksgiving giving...was told they are closed AFTER being told they would be open. Fine whatever placed the order to be picked up today (the day before thanksgiving) only got my order to have been sold because I had to work and couldn’t get there before 6pm which I was told was perfectly fine they would just bring my order to the main store and I could pick it up at the bakery. This was obviously not the case. How the closing employee made it sound that she was told to sticker and sell the bread. The communication in this establishment leaves a lot to be desired. Along with their business practices. I will never do business at this place or the other stores...
