Do Not Eat Here, The Owner Does Not Treat His Customers with Respect In My Experience! I have a co worker who has never eaten Vietnamese food before so I decided to take him to What The Pho. I have a close friend whom is Vietnamese that turned me on to What The Pho a while ago. I sat down and ordered 4 Vietnamese coffees, 1 order of spring rolls. The waiter went to start getting that together and came back for our lunch order. Since it was my coworkers first time eating Vietnamese I wanted him to try both the Pho (the waiter called it Phoooh, and should probably know how to pronounce it correctly if he is going to work here)and also wanted him to try the Vermicelli. I asked the waiter if they could spilt the 2 meals in half as we were going to spilt the 2 meals so my coworker could try both. The waiter said they could not and that he would bring me an extra bowl and plate so I could do it myself at the table. I told him I would prefer they do it in the back as I did not want to make a mess pouring soup from 1 bowl to another. The waiter again said they could not split the food up for me. I inquired why they would not do this? He stated that the owner feels people would order less food if they split the meals up in the back. I said I was ordering 2 meals anyway, so what’s the difference. There was no sign on the door stating there was a food requirement of any kind required. This was all ridiculous. The Chef came out and with a horrible attitude sticking his chest out at me said he would not split the food and would bring me a bowl for me to do it myself. He said “I’m the Chef and it’s my way”. Wow! I said, I’m the customer and I did not want to make a mess at the table. The Chef had a terrible attitude so I got up and said we would take our business elsewhere. The Chef said he did not care and walked away with his hands in the air (literally). I have to say he is the very first person of the Vietnamese culture I have ever met that was rude. I’ve visited Vietnam (with my friend who turned me on to this place to begin with) 3 times and I’ve always felt the Vietnamese people were the kindest people. Well I found the 1 jerk! I called back to complain to the owner and a young lady answered and told me the Chef was the owner! Because of his rude behavior I yelped for another Vietnamese restourant in the area to go to show my coworker Vietnamese food and “Pho Lucky” in Redford (3 miles away) showed up. Thanks to the jerk owner, we left What the Pho and went to Pho Lucky and had a fantastic meal. The ice coffee and Pho was better here! No joke! And yes, they split the food for us and treated us as customers and not like criminals like the first place. The silver lining is while I’ll never go back in my life to What the Pho, I found Lucky Pho and the food is actually better and with great service! Do Not Eat At What The Pho, Owner was Rude to...
Read moreCame here with My Mother, a returning customer with the hopes of getting Good services. We ordered Pho with shrimp , steak and , vegetables. The plate of vegetables was super small, we had it previously and we received way more veggies so we were a little bit confused. I asked my waitress why weren’t their many vegetables we ordered two bowls. She said that’s enough vegetables “that’s how much we give” I proceeded to let her know well it was more last time so I wanted more she said you both want your own separate vegetables for your Pho, we said yes, so she took the 1 medium size plate and comes out with 2 smaller plates and just split up the same veggies that was in the medium plate! So basically she thought we were stupid! So I told her respectfully that it’s the same amount of vegetables you just split them up on small plates she said well I’ll have to get the boss. The so called boss came out and was really rude and condescending. He was yelling saying people that works for them keep giving people more veggies than their supposed to have and basically didn’t want to give us more! I told him buddy cilantro is CHEAP seriously he said it’s not it’s expensive! Seriously you can get a whole bushel of cilantro for under $1.00 but we let it go My mom and I said we just won’t return again he said okay Good! And walked off. I felt very pissed about his behavior because we literally were just paying customers and they treated us really bad they kept coming back in fourth looking at us and walking away as if we were some type of crooks! My family and I don’t operate in that manner we buy things we like and we pay and TIP well! And they literally didn’t tend to anyone else just kept looking at us our entire visit after we had questions about something we’re buying! Moreover once we received the bill we noticed an 18% service charge my mom said they charge service charges we were confused because our last visit their weren’t and service charges so I ask our waitress she ignored me sp I asked her again when did they start doing service charges she responded “ we do it sometimes! EXCUSE ME!!! I feel completely racially profiled and discriminated against because we asked a question that lead you to treat us like crooks and automatically charge a service fee over two Pho bowls it wasn’t like we had a group of people! And we were going to tip but they took it upon themselves to add it automatically and I think that is superb so I did my research and apparently this company is doing this to majority fair skinned customers and discriminating against us and saying “ black people don’t tip” they are harassing people for tips and if it’s not enough they ambush you! My mom and I will be taking some legal actions against this BS SERVICE COMPANY! Disappointing please do not...
Read moreMost Vietnamese places have good pho. It's no surprise, since pho in itself is fantastic Vietnamese staple. This place is no different, and has great pho. What really sets this place apart is everything else.
First time I went there, I had the Vietnamese Stew and would definitely recommend it. The Roasted Chicken is something my wife and I agree, might be some of the best chicken in the area. I enjoy pork, and the Simmer Pork is a must (incredibly sauce). My son gets fried rice, and their Shrimp Fried Rice is awesome. We haven't ventured over to the Japanese side much, but the YakiSoba was really good. We've also had a bunch of the appetizers and would recommend those as well (great sauce with the coconut shrimp, and the summer roll seems to be favorite of many when I sit in).
Only thing I didn't particularly enjoy was the Vietnamese Pork Chops. There were a few sides / textures I wasn't extremely fond of, but it might just be that if you are craving pork, the Simmer Pork wins out every time, I haven't had a reason to give the Vietnamese Pork Chop a second try.
In addition to great food options, the service is usually top notch. A trick that one of their friendly servers (Alley) explained to me, was that when ordering their teas (which are much tastier than most teas I've had at similar restaurants), just ask for them strong. Their honey ginger tea my go-to.
Whenever I get the chance, I recommend this place, and put it in my top 5 spots in the Wayne...
