***edit 3/15/24 There is a new menu! The honey mustard fried chicken sandwich is amazing! My teen has never liked honey mustard but when she tasted my sandwich she loved it and said the honey mustard didnt taste like most and is more of a sauce. The focaccia bread used for the BLT bun has been improved and is softer. Get the popovers! The new berry cheesecake was divine. Not too sweet or heavy... it was just right. I love all the sides and have more than once ordered just sides and no entree. ____________________________________ The Blackberry Buttermilk Pie is amazing. It's like a less heavy version of cheesecake. Love it! Watermelon water was refreshing. The gizzards and pickles with spicy honey appetizer was tasty. We'll be back.

Supper here on 3/23/2024. Convenient parking right on downtown Lockhart. We were seated right away, no wait time. Menu is rather simple and steaight forward. All available courses on one page. Interesting choices. Wife and I shared the chicken fried steak topped with red-eye gravy with duck fat fried potatoes and cauliflower. Iced tea to drink. Good sized portions. CFS was tough and hard to cut and to chew. Potatoes were strange tasting in their duck fat essence. Cauliflower was hiding under the CFS, but was tasty. Every table is close to the open kitchen and the entire space is noisy to the point that much of our table conversation had to be repeated. Shared entree with tip was $30+.

One of our usual and favorite places to eat. Every time we come in, the food is amazing and delicious and the service is super friendly. They have one of the best chicken fried steaks I've ever had and their steak is always perfect, you have to try it! My usual dish is the roasted chicken with the seared greenbeans and you can't go wrong with the fried gizzards and pickles or the popovers as a starter. This place is great for a date night, complete with cocktails and beer or a casual place to grab dinner with the family(they usually have a Monday night family meal deal). They can get pretty busy on the weekends or during First Friday but the food and drinks are always worth the wait.

The food was excellent. This is first time I have ever had a chicken fried steak that was actually cooked medium rare with a pink center. Unbelievable. To me that added a depth to the taste that was off the wall and totally unexpected. And the batter covering the steak was cooked perfectly as well. I do not know how the chef did it, but he needs to take a bow. The string beans were also still crisp and cooked perfectly. The duck fat potatoes were also above par and stood on their own. Somebody knows how to cook and it shows in all the other dishes as well. My wife had the pork chop sandwich and it disappeared quickly. She said she enjoyed it with the aoli. The other dishes also hit the spot. The dessert of buttermilk pie had a very custardy taste and also was above and beyond expectations. So the food is excellent. The restaurant is a little noisy, but I suspect most diners like the ambiance. The service was good but a little slow at times. This did allow us to have time to visit and there was absolutely no pressure to leave even though we spent a long time eating lunch. We drove 2 hours to eat here and will...

We went to a party last night at the Commerce Cafe Hall, upstairs from the restaurant. We were served a buffet style dinner of baked pesto chicken, roast beef (with a perfect horseradish sauce on the side), the most delicious roasted vegetables (cherry tomatoes, asparagus, green beans, mushrooms, and cauliflower in some heavenly garlic sauce), au gratin potatoes, hot and fresh brioche rolls, the Texas peach salad, and three delicious pies (one of which was a phenomenal, lemony buttermilk pie). The food looked delicious, tasted even better, their service was on point, and the hall itself was just beautiful. They did a great job of catering and hosting the party!! I have already sent out recommendations to family and friends about how delicious the food was and we plan on going back for lunches and dinners. A definite must...

I really wish we could have loved this place! We went to try a new place, for my birthday, and it did not meet our expectations and ruined the evening. The highlights were as follows: attractive setup and nice tables and chairs. The bathrooms were nice too. The best part was the popovers. Those were very good. The vegetables were very seasoned, but I actually liked those. Unfortunately, the salad did not have enough dressing for my husband, and the chicken fried steak was lacking in flavor. My steak was chewy and weirdly cooked, the potatoes had a sour taste to them. The waitress did remove my meal from the ticket, and offered to have the kitchen do something else. It would have been more useful had she checked in with us after we got the food, instead of waiting until the end. Maybe it was an...
