UPDATE: Seems that my first time here was a fluke. Ended up giving this spot another try and did not leave disappointed. Did another small cone with one scoop of cookies 'n cream and another of cookie dough on a regular cone. Umm... nailed it. Scoop size was perfection, 10/10 placement, no lingering odd ball flavors, and taste was everything you'd expect for a cookies 'n cream & cookie dough. Nice creamy vanilla throughout and surprises of cookies and cookie dough. Yum!
We did get adventurous on this second time around and shared an order of the banana nutella donuts. OMG. Freshly made donut bites topped with slices of bananas and a nutella drizzle. Might as well update the name to Original Rainbow Cone & Donuts. Delicious when switching back and forth between the ice cream cone and bites of donuts.
Anyways, I'm glad I gave this one another opportunity. Truly a much better experience. Just FYI this location does have a drive thru, if you're just looking to quick grab and go. Inside seating area is quite the spot for photos if you decide to sit in. That's all I got on this one.
'Til next time, cheers!
ORIGINAL: From an ice cream perspective, I thought it was just okay. Small cone (~2 scoops) will run you $5 and some change. Ended up doing pistachio & cookies and cream on a regular cone. Scoop sizes were drastically different, possibly do to the inconsistency throughout. The pistachio was the base scoop and was much too soft to the point that it was having a hard time supporting the cookies & cream on top. Another thing that kind of irked me was they don't clean the scooper between scoops. My pistachio had 3 or 4 other types of ice cream flavors on it and the cookies and cream had remnants of the pistachio that was previous put on. All that being said, pistachio I could have lived without and cookies and cream was decent.
All in all, this one was a miss for me, but maybe should have gone with their famous rainbow cone. Anyhow, the search for the go to ice cream spot continues.
'Til next...
Read moreHonestly, I was really excited to check out this place. The set up is really cute. However, the service I received was awful. I got there with my two friends and as you can see in the video they were dead in terms of customers. It was just us three and one lady with her daughter who was already sitting in a corner eating dessert. There was a guy ahead of us and he was placing his order while we waited patiently in line for our turn. There were three employees working at the time.
However, the blonde guy working (I didnât catch his name) he took the guys order and then went to the back. The other two ladies prepared his order. We continued to wait thinking the guy would come back and take our order. We waited for 15 minutes patiently. No one came to take our order. The guy in front of us got his order and had left at this point. The way he was treated was so refreshing to see. They delivered exceptional service to him. And after being continuously ignored by all three staff members my friend said excuse me and the guy came up to the register and she said we have been waiting here for ten minutes and no one has taken our order. He just reminded OH. Not even once did he apologize. He then asked us what we wanted and then went to prepare it. When our dessert was ready he just placed it on the counter and looked at us and said here is your order. We saw how they treated people before and after us and it just showed how we were treated so differently.
Overall, I didnât really like the ice cream cake because I feel like all those flavors didnât go well together. I should have stuck with one flavor. However the cinnamon sugar donuts were pretty good. They were so tiny and cute. However, due to the way we were treated I donât think I will go back to this dessert...

Just had to share today's experience. The 2 star review is solely based on it. My mother has never tried Rainbow. As a kid my cousins and I looked forward to this weekend summer treat. I convinced my mom to finally try Rainbow now that they are open in my neighborhood. Thankfully the line was nowhere near as long as it usually is. I pulled into the drive thru. When I reached the menu and was trying to convince her to go with the original Rainbow no one came on the speaker to take our order so I pulled up assuming maybe orders were being taken at the window.
We patiently sat in the drive thru waiting our turn. The customer 2 cars ahead was holding up the line because she apparently decided she wanted a cup not a cone. Fine. Whatever. When I approached the window the cashier gave me a total and I explained that my order wasn't taken I assumed I was to order at the window. She proceeded to tell me no and that I'd have to go back around and get in line again. I asked if she could take the order it was just 2 cones I'd waited my turn and she said no because I'd be holding up the other customers. I said never mind then and left. What kind of customer service is that? I could understand if I had a car full of people but the fact it was 2 people and I'd patiently waited for my turn really pisses me off. Not to mention I was excited about my mom finally trying this iconic Chgo treat. What a complete...
