A Taste of the Caribbean Paradise (with a Brooklyn Twist!)
This Queens native knows good Caribbean food, and let me tell you, A Taste of the Caribbean is the real deal. Chef Bernard, though originally from Guyana, brings the flavors of the entire Caribbean to his Brooklyn kitchen. You can tell he puts his heart and soul into every dish.
The Meaty Delights:
Oxtails: Forget everything you thought you knew about oxtails. These melt-in-your-mouth morsels were pure perfection. So tender, the meat practically fell off the bone. Jerk Chicken: The jerk chicken was bursting with flavor. The jerk sauce had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, coating the chicken in a way that had me wanting more. Jerk Salmon: This dish was a revelation! Crispy on the outside, the salmon remained incredibly moist and flaky inside. A true textural and tastebud explosion. Goat Curry: The goat curry was a symphony of slow-cooked goodness. Perfectly stewed and seasoned, the meat was incredibly tender and the flavors were complex and delicious. The Sides that Shine:
Peas and Rice: Don't underestimate the importance of good peas and rice. Chef Bernard's version was cooked to perfection, with the subtle hint of thyme adding another layer of depth. Cabbage: Simple yet satisfying, the cabbage was cooked just right, retaining a bit of crunch. Beverage Bliss:
Sorrel Drink: This traditional Caribbean drink was a refreshing and flavorful way to end the meal. Sea Moss Smoothie: A delicious and healthy option, the sea moss smoothie was a unique and delightful surprise. Final Verdict:
A Taste of the Caribbean is a hidden gem. Chef Bernard's passion for his food shines through in every bite. From the melt-in-your-mouth oxtails to the flavorful jerk chicken and perfectly cooked sides, this spot is a must-try for anyone craving a taste of the Caribbean (with a...
Read moreI am highly disappointed. My mom was craving ox tails for dinner; it’s MOTHER’S DAY. I went up to this place, grabbed my food, got home and opened up my bag just to realize that they forgot the ox tails. I had to drive back over there, which took 15 minutes btw, and when I got there, a girl in the front explained to me that there were no more ox tails left. So why would you not explain that to me when I grabbed my food?! You had me drive back over here just to tell me you guys are out of ox tails?! Ridiculous. When I asked to have a different meal instead, she said “No, we can’t do that.” and as a “substitute” she gave me a drink. A DRINK INSTEAD OF A MEAL WORTH THE SAME PRICE AS MY $32 MISSING MEAL. Crazy!! My whole entire order cost $120. THIS FOR $120?!!! The lady claimed that I was being refunded for the ox tails, but I received no receipt verifying this at all. When I got home of course my other meals were cold. It took me a whole hour going back and forth. All and all, they deliberately let me walk out of the establishment knowing that one of my meals was missing. They made my entire order knowing that they didn’t have the ox tails and instead of calling to inform me, let me travel back home with the idea that I had everything. Do not...
Read moreI am glad to see a genuine Caribbean food establishment in the LBC again. I will definitely be supporting it. Now, this isn't "fast food". Expect a wait of at least 20 minutes depending on what you order. Unsure if you can call in your order. Unfamiliar with Caribbean food? They have jerk chicken for you. I recommend going with the roti, curry chicken. Curry chicken was full of chicken and was delicious. chicken has bones. Roti is the best thing to try. Roti was hot and scrumptious. Get at least a Roti on the side. Had a beef patty too. Roughly $30. Well worth the wait. Try the tropical punch. Ask for hotsauce for extra flavor. Will be going back. Vegan dishes available. Check to make sure you have everything you ordered...
