I have to say that I'm very disappointed about a few things at Broken Earth. It seems like when we go there and it is not that busy, they are willing to offer samples of wines, but when they are busy, as they were yesterday, we were told by a young male bartender, they don't offer samples. We have been going here for about 12 years, and we have purchased bottles previously, and we have enjoyed most of the wines they offer. They have also previously been super nice, and from what we both remember, always offered samples of wines, but we were never there when it was busy, like yesterday. I picked a Vermentino wine, which we are fairly certain was priced at $11.00 a glass. I gave the male bartender $12.00 and we went outside to listen to the music, since we were only planning on having one drink. A few minutes after seating outside, I was approached by a woman who asked if I had the Vermentino wine, I said yes, and she said it was $12.00, and I owed 1 more dollar. Knowing that I did give $12.00, I decided not to debate the issue, and I still gave 2 more dollars, thinking that I was now giving a higher tip. I just couldn't believe that someone would hunt someone down for, and demand 1 more dollar, unless the bartender pocketed some dollars. I finally checked my receipt which showed there was .96 cents tax, which was never mentioned to me by either employee. We were both highly surprised because we have enjoyed the wine, the atmosphere, and the employees we've met over the years. Unfortunately, due to this experience we had yesterday, we are going to heavily consider if we are ever going to go back, due to the unrealistic treatment, and...
Read moreThis is a great little venue in Long Grove and well worth a visit. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
I've been here twice this year. Once in February when we saw some live music and celebrated a friend's birthday. We were able to bring in some treats and ordered the snacks that they provide. If you're looking for a more substantial meal, you can order from some local establishments. They have some really great wines (or so said our group - I'm not a really big wine drinker), so I ordered a hard seltzer. They introduced me to Fresca Mixed (which is awesome), but they also have cocktails and can mix for you any kind of drink (within reason).
There are a bunch of tables of varying sizes inside and they can handle parties as well.
The second time I went was again with a group, but this time we were outside at a table that didn't quite fit us. However, when another table opened up, they were very accommodating in letting us use it for the food we ordered from a local pizzeria. On this occasion, we saw a good band and enjoyed the nice weather, had some good drinks, and the atmosphere was nice. We will...
Read moreWe’re so disappointed. We’ve been regulars here since 2017 but apparently not impressionable enough. We came in this evening and there was live music which is one of our favorite reasons to visit. It was busy and we sat inside and asked if we could please sit outside when something opened. We watched people come and sit down outside without even stopping in to the host which I understand. After waiting 30 min with empty glasses, we saw a table open up outside and asked if we could sit there and were told the table was not ready yet. Not even a minute later, a couple walked in, shook hands with the bartender and got sat at the table we were expecting. It was so busy in there and I understand things happen, but we sat and waited patiently for an hour for an outdoor table because we wanted to spend time at one of our favorite places and when it opened up, it was given to somebody more important apparently. Not super great protocols or restaurant etiquette, Broken Earth. Thank god Corked Wine Bar is just a few steps away and we’re currently enjoying a bottle on their patio. Do better for future patrons-we won’t be...
