We went with friends with high expectations after a local newspaper review. We were very disappointed from the start. The wait person kept coming to take our order despite the fact that our friends had not arrived. We said we will wait for our friends to arrive. In the meantime please bring us two beers and bread and butter. We waited and waited for both the friends and the bread and butter. After our friends did come they ordered two martini drinks, while the waitperson still said several times what did we want to order. Strike one...My friends said we will drink first and order in a few. In a few we ordered salads and pizza. They ran out of the cauliflower salad. We ordered beet salad instead. We also ordered sausage and white pizza. All dishes arrived at the same time. Another strike...no time to sip a beer and eat the salad first. The pizza was served under done ( crispness to the crust) even though the taste was good. Limp pizza at room temperature is not a good statement, especially at a price of $18 a pizza. Very limited sausage on the pizza, and heavy on the red onion which was not cooked enough. The beets salad was cold like it came from a refrigerated case, and had been prepared hours in advance. The dessert of chocolate cake was very good. Two stars is it out of five...will we be back ... a shrug ... wonderful looking pizza restaurant, but PLEASE...GET YOUR ACT AND TEAM ON THE FIVE...
Read moreI'm hoping this review will be interpreted as a few gentle suggestions to the owner rather than a slam of their products. I've had the pizza here a couple of times and Babbettes does get it mostly right. They use quality ingredients, the dough is good and the finished pie looks really tasty. It would be perfect if they'd cook it long enough for the center to get as crisp as the outside. Both times I've had their pies the center was under cooked. Last night I had a take out pie (welcome to the wide, wide world of Covid19 & thanks to Babbettes for being open). Before I left to pick it up I turned my oven on high. Yes the pizza was under cooked in the center. 5-10 minutes in the hot oven I had preped yielded a truly tasty pie.
I also ordered the Roasted Artichokes. Described as coming with smoked burrata, orange, fennel pollen. What's not to like? Well, everything. What I ended up with was canned, marinated & quartered artichoke hearts with a nasty glop of aioli. It was not good. At all. Seriously, with the expectations set by the description I felt cheated. Babettes should take it off the menu.
Also, you can't add any ingredients to their pizzas. I love sausage and black olives. I could get sausage. It would be nice to have a few other goodies to add to your pizza.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be back. I just wish a few rough edges could...
Read moreIt's ok, but I probably won't go back. I went here after reading the wonderful reviews and heard a lot of hype about the place. The place itself is beautiful, with a wonderfully made pizza oven and an industrial without seeming half-finished feel. My husband and I were sat immediately by a very professional and friendly waiter, who was honest with his recommendations (this pizza is good, this appetizer is overpriced, etc). We ordered the sausage pizza as per his recommendation. It didn't take long to get to our table (it was pretty empty so unsurprising), so service was prompt. But the pizza that arrived was quite underwhelming. The sauce was so watery that nothing stuck to the crust, even after resting several minutes. It was a bit more "artisanal" than I was expecting, with only a few large pieces of mozzarella sparingly covering the pie. The sausage was sitting in a small pool of grease, which, along with the sauce, would cover our hands upon attempting to pick up the slice. The crust was good, but on the flabby side, so gravity immediately fought to remove all toppings the moment it was off the plate. We did not have a bad experience, with a polite waiter, nice atmosphere, and prompt service, but the pizza was disappointing. I find it unlikely that I will...
