We were hungry and wanted to avoid Fort Collins because the New West Fest was going on and that draws in a lot of people, so we knew traffic and parking would be crazy and restaurants would be extra busy. We decided to check out Guhrkas.
One of hubby's favorite things in the world is a good samosa, so we decided to start by sharing a Samosa Chat appetizer and it was presented beautifully. The sliced samosa is drizzled with mint chutney, yogurt and tamarind chutney. The samosa was hearty, savory, flaky and delicious and the chutneys and yogurt added another depth of flavor with just the right amount of sweet, tangy and bitter flavor profiles.
Hubby ordered the Chilli Momos with a medium heat level and I ordered the Chow Chow Masala with Tofu with a medium heat level. We shared our entrees and both were absolutely delicious and the heat level was perfect for what we were in the mood for and had a nice bite without overpowering the dish!
The Chilli Momos were really good. The filling was savory, and the momos were served with nice chunks of onion and bell pepper which gave the dish a hearty feel.
The Chow chow with Tofu was delicious as well. The tofu, noodles and vegetables gave it a hearty, rustic feel and the masala gave it a tangy, smoky, spicy, slightly sweet flavor.
We also had an order of Butter Naan and that was super good too! Hot, flaky, buttery and chewy - obviously freshly made to order
The servings were generous and service was good.
We were very happy with our meal and will definitely be adding Guhrkas into our list of favorite...
Read moreSo I ordered delivery from Gurkhas tonight. And the food was delicious. Unfortunately the way the staff handled me was so bad that I doubt I will ever be ordering from or visiting this establishment ever again. After waiting an hour for my food I decided to call the restaurant to make sure they hadn't forgotten about me. I had to repeat my address to the woman on the end of the phone no less than six times before she was finally able to inform me that it was "gone." It took another five minutes before she could explain to me that she meant that it was on it's way and not that my order was lost. I requested that she call the driver for me to make sure he hadn't gotten lost on the way and she refused to do so stating that, "There's two drivers and I don't know which one has your food." Honestly, how hard is it to make two phone calls to confirm who has the food so you can make sure it's on its way? After this very rude and unsatisfactory interaction I requested to speak to a manager. I was simply told there was no manager and offered no recourse for my complaint about this abominable excuse for customer service. I hung up frustrated and not sure if my food would ever come. When the food finally did come it was cold and an hour and a half after I placed my order. I had to microwave it and although it tasted fine I would have liked to have had my food in a timely manner and with less hostility directed at me by the staff. I was extremely disappointed with my experience tonight. I have had better luck with customer service at most fast...
Read moreMy wife and I were visiting Boulder and wanted Indian for dinner. We saw some good reviews for Gurkhas and decided to give a try. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere was cozy and the food and service were superb.
My wife had the chicken tikka masala, which was delicious. The sauce had a slight twist in flavor that differentiated this version from the traditional dish (in a good way). It had a nice combination of sweet, savory, and spicy flavor.
I had the chef's special, lamb chops in a red wine masala sauce served with potatoes and vegetables, which was simply outstanding. The lamb was tender and flavorful, the vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the creamy potatoes were a nice change of pace from the traditional side of rice. The red wine masala sauce brought everything together nicely with a wonderfully aromatic blend of spices and tangy red wine; the roasted tomatoes were a nice touch as well. Ask the chef to add a bit of spice to the dish for an extra little kick (I requested medium spicy).
Both dishes combined traditional Indian flavors with the chef's personal twist, which made the food more memorable than what you might find in a typical Indian restaurant. If we're ever back in Boulder, we will surely return.
Definitely recommend trying this place if you're in the mood for Indian food, but bring a big appetite as portions are...
