Went here to celebrate a birthday and have a meal. Don't know if it was a bad day for them, or something happened to this spot like chef turn over, but China Gourmet used to be our go to spot for special occasions, and the first place I would have normally recommend to others looking for Chinese restaurant with "traditional" offerings on the menu in the Longmont area. But today most of the food was inedible! Only one dish turned out okay otherwise everything else had either way too much pepper or too much salt.
The West Lake beef soup here in the past had always been delightful and my absolute favorite thing on the menu, so of course I had to order it. But to my utter dismay, this time it had a massive amount of white pepper in it that it rendered the soup inedible, as it was all you can taste, and I had to use water to dilute it to try to get some of it down. The hot and sour soup used to be good too, my second favorite soup here, but had way too much pepper as well. Not balanced like it used to.
Lost my appetite, but I tried some of the spicy lamb lunch entree. It was way too salty and I had to eat it with rice to try to even it out.
I also tried the spicy beef tendon and it taste different and definitely not as good as before.
It was disappointing because once your tongue has had some tasty food at a restaurant, that is what you expect each and every time you visit. I did not enjoy the food at all today and would no longer would recommend this...
Read moreThe good: the food was pretty typical tasting Chinese food which is my favorite cuisine so of course I thought it was pretty good and it was prepared quickly. The bad: i would tip after the meal instead of before like I did and it wasnt a cheap tip. the service was the worst I can remember having. I typically dont like giving poor reviews because I like supporting growing businesses but this place warranted a poor review. The kid who took our order acted as if we were a burden to him and was rushing us through and it wasn't late and there was no one in line behind us. In fact the restaurant had only 3 parties in it so not busy at all. The portions are on the small side compared to most Chinese restaurants we've gone to and for the price. None of our 5 drinks got refilled and my wife went up for a refill and the two guys there actually had to scoot AROUND her to ignore her request for a drink and when I went up to the counter to do the wait staffs job I was ignored until I asked for a refill and was told to wait even though the employee I asked stood no more than 2 feet away from the fountain machine. Again I say, it was not busy at all which I would have been sympathetic towards. Just an overall bad experience but take your chances if you want. Maybe they were just having a bad night as most reviews are positive. I know we won't go here...
Read moreChina Gourmet is one of those spots in Longmont that feels like a hidden gem. Every time I’ve visited, the food has been absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from classic favorites like sweet and sour chicken and Mongolian beef to house specialties that you won’t find just anywhere. The portions are generous, making it great for sharing or taking some home to enjoy later. One of the things I appreciate most about China Gourmet is the consistency. Every dish I’ve tried has been spot-on, and you can tell they put pride into their cooking. It’s not just tasty food; it’s comfort food that keeps you coming back. The service here is also really good. The staff is friendly, attentive, and makes sure you’re taken care of without hovering. They’re quick to take orders, refill drinks, and check in at the right times. It makes the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. Another highlight is the atmosphere. China Gourmet is fairly quiet, which is rare to find these days. It’s a nice change of pace when you want to relax, enjoy a meal, and actually have a conversation without shouting over noise. Overall, China Gourmet is a reliable, delicious, and peaceful place to eat in Longmont. Highly recommend if you’re craving Chinese...
