If you're a cheesecake coinoisseur, you know how difficult it is to find a delicious, homemade, baked cheesecake. So often, they're storebought or no-bake, and disappointing. At Mellie's, you can tell everything is homemade, the way you'd make a cheesecake if you had the time or skills! We've been twice and tried several varieties, and they're all incredible: not too sweet, perfectly dense, and firmly set without being overbaked. I buy three slices at a time and wish I had two more stomachs so I could eat them all in a row!
My singular complaint (which isn't really a complaint, it's just me whining) is that I wish they'd make a chocolate cheesecake. Maybe they do and I just haven't been around for it, but I got a chocolate peppermint slice today and I was hoping the cheesecake itself would be chocolate. Instead, it's a classic cheesecake base with chocolate pieces (maybe it’s peppermint patties, I haven't tried it yet and it looks wonderful, it's just definitely not a chocolate base and I wish it was!). That's just my own preference because I am absolutely obsessed with chocolate cheesecake, and not actually a criticism of Mellie's, who can't possibly know that that's my preference nor are they obligated to make cheesecakes to my request. Tragically, I live 45 minutes away so I'm not the target audience anyway.
I hope Mellie's sticks around and even expands their offerings because everything I've tried has been SO GOOD, I believe they'd succeed at...
Read moreHad to try the basics, a cinnamon roll and a slice New York cheesecake. I was not impressed with either. For a cinnamon roll, I'm looking for a punch of cinnamon, great dough to sugar ratio and beautifully creamy cream cheese frosting. That is not what this is. The dough was bland and thick for the lack of cinnamon sugar. The frosting was like a cream cheese flavored sugar frosting. It coated my mouth with a film of sugar. The cheesecake...was half frozen. Ice chunks were falling off on the seat of my car. With that, the crust was soggy and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a graham cracker or sugar cookie crust and there was an undertone of lemon where I was expecting vanilla. Highly...
Read moreI love cheesecake; it’s my all time favorite dessert. That makes me a little picky about my cheesecake; it has to be rich and creamy and decadent. Mellie's checked all the boxes; I had a slice of the Lush Lemon cheesecake and it was to die for. The crust was perfectly crunchy and crumbly, with just a dash of salt on the palette; the custard cheesecake filling was rich and creamy and what dreams are made of. The lemon on top though, oh my gosh, was it such a perfect balance to the rich cheesecake; it was tart and smooth and the absolute perfect topping. I really hope Mellie’s sticks around; we could use this kind of quality hometown bakery. Hats off to...
