Taco Surf Los Alamitos — Restaurant in Los Alamitos

My wife and I placed a $150 take out order for a dinner order to treat her parents who had just arrived from Chicago. After driving 10 miles roundtrip to pick up our dinner, we arrived home to find two items were missing. It wouldn't have been so terrible, except that one of the missing items was my 4yo son's tacos. The other was just a side of fries. So after driving back to the restaurant, I walked in to find an empty host stand with my son's tacos sitting on the counter. They were obviously cold because the inside of the clear plastic container was barely steamed up. Then the host walked over and informed me that he forgot to ring up the side of fries, so I would have to pay for those and then wait about five more minutes while they finished cooking the batch. I reminded him how the restaurant forgot part of our order and I was now driving 20 miles (two turn around trips) for tacos, yet he wanted me to pay for fries? The host looked at the manager who was standing quietly behind the bar, then replied, "Yeah".

I declined to pay for the dries, took the cold tacos and went home. By this point my food was cold and dry. The rest of the family all agreed that the best part of the meal were the chips and salsa.

I've been coming to this Taco Surf ever since the place opened. I remember it was always amazing back in the day and the restaurant was always packed at dinner time. Tonight, the place was practically empty. My wife and I have eaten at this specific location probably three or four times in the past two years. Each time we've been less than impressed. This experience was absolutely the last straw for us. There are way too many better Mexican Food options in the area where I would much rather...

If your looking for good fish taco spot, this ain’t it. You would think with the theme “taco surf” they be serving up something great but nah, sadly they missed… my shorty knows I like fish tacos so she suggested the spot. I gave them two stars and not one, cause the place was chill not to busy, and we were seated quickly. And the prices seem reasonable… The problems comes after.. So they have courtesy chips and salsa, I can appreciate this but why will you serve stale chips ? And when told about it and asked to have them swapped for fresher ones bring back chips from the same batch…it probably cause they just mix fresh chips with old ones to save on cost. Why even offer chips? They should of just kept that. Our server missed on our order too, my shorty told him no pico, ordered a side of shrimp, and I told the man single tortillas on my tacos… We had to send back her taco cause they had the guac/pico on em, my tacos came with two tortillas, and the shrimp only came after we reminded him we ordered side a shrimp.

Wife and I working from home and went for our Friday lunch. The place was pretty cold. So much so that other people walking in were saying the same thing. Had the Carnitas plate, green chili style and they were luke-warm and not very good. Not really bad, but would never order it again, that's for sure. My wife had a tortilla soup and she mentioned it to me before I even asked, how was it, that it was just ok and bordering on not good. So the food was barely ok today. They don't even have decaf. We've been here a total of 4 times in 20 years and although it's very close to my home we never really think about coming back. And making the choice to try it out again today and the experience, just reminds us again of that. I don't know, maybe a COVID thing? We're trying to support local business but we need a little help for us to want to...
