California Steak and Fries — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I'm really sorry that I didn't take pictures.

I'm a Muslim so I wanted halal food. I was sent to this place by a brother at the masjid.

I'm from out of town so I'm going in blind. Uh oh. They take EBT. Yay!

So, I gave the service a three because 1) all the menu items were not available and 2) as soon as I mentioned that I was paying with EBT he was like, "you gotta get it to go". Made me feel like "you poor people are not welcome here".

So, I ordered a Nacho cheese steak with a side of BBQ sauce and a small lemonade with no ice (which was huge). Yo. I mean. Yo. Like. YO! When I tell you that it was one of the BEST sandwiches I ever ate in my 50 year life, I'm not BS'ing. That junt was fire and desire. I was at the bus stop scraping cheese off the container. WHAT? And the lemonade was on point. So five stars for the food. Good job.

The atmosphere was okay. Some of the chairs were up on some of the tables so eating in would have felt a little weird. In general the place was small. I can't remember if it was quiet but I remember it being quiet. I prefer quiet over music so that's a plus. Solid four stars.

If you are in Los Angeles and want a good halal cheese steak you should give...

I wanted to try the restaurant because it is a “Halal” restaurant… But I don’t think it’s considered “Halal” to lie and try to rip people off !

Before going into the restaurant I looked at the menu online . Then I went inside to order two small fries for my child and I . Online it said that small fries cost $3.99. While ringing up my order I watched the man put in “pizza fries” and then he told me my order was $17.99 . I was very confused and tried to explain to him that wasn’t what the price said online for small fries . He then told me that the website was wrong and wasn’t updated and that the prices are old. I then stated I no longer wanted the fries and that I would go somewhere else . After that he replied “oh I can give you a smaller size for a different price”.

I already asked for a small how much smaller can it be. If the prices on the website are wrong maybe the website should be updated. Customers are still able to purchase on the website with the listed prices but in store the prices are way more expensive. It comes off as if this place likes to rip people off… We decided to just get pizza from the place next...

Update 1: The owner should be ashamed of himself. Why doesn't he have AC? It had to be about 90 degrees in there today! The poor guy is sweating, hot, and annoyed (rightfully so). He was working by himself....cooking the food and working the register! He was getting slammed with orders too.

I knew something was off because he wasn't as friendly as he normally is. My cheesesteak was missing a slice of cheese. The fries were way overcooked (all of them were very crunchy). This is unusual. Their food is typically made well.

Side note: There are two guys who work there that I've seen (one is a Black guy and the other is not). I've only encountered the Black guy once. The other guy (not sure of his ethnicity) is mostly there alone.

The owner should make sure there are two people working. He should also invest in AC.

Original review: The steak is seasoned well. The sandwich tastes good, but is on the small side. I asked for extra mushroom and onion. Didn't seem like extra was added. The fries were hot and fresh out of the oil.
