Bienvenidos a Casita del Campo! This nearly 63 year old restaurant, event space, bar and all around feel good spot has been doing many things in the city of Silverlake just off Hyperion Avenue.
The service is so considerate, caring, and smooth. You'll definitely feel like family here. And it's definitely what keeps people coming back. Casita del Campo officially became a part of my dining experiences a year or so ago.
All the staff is always beyond cheerful, charming and warm... Fun jokes and all. The drinks are stellar, especially the margaritas... Like may I have more please!
1000% super solid authentic Mexican they know their city and have an assortment of options for any and all including a vegan menu that's short, yet plentiful. The vegan enchiladas being my guilty pleasure each time. My boyfriend is a huge fan of the classic enchiladas like the mole poblano.
Para las comidas es: entrees, enchiladas (as mentioned), plates/specialties, fajitas, pescado, postres, sides, salads, soups, tacos, taquitos y burritos plus antojitos/appetizers/snacks - fresh guac and chips is the way to go, but nachos, quesadillas, queso dishes and sweet corn tamales are a few of their choice options.
Bebidas son abundantes - they have so many great cocktail, wine and beer options. Soft drinks, agua frescas, teas, lemonade, juices, horchata, sparkling, still or bottle water are all in the mix as well.
For very large groups or parties you can make an inquiry (make sure to give plenty of notice) and take your pick of the Red Lounge Room (50 guests max), Patio Deck (capacity of 30), Chimney Room (trienta personas) or Paloma Room ( up to 35 people - also they make great Palomas). They also offer pitchers of Margs for a great deal for groups.
While Lunch and Dinner are my favorite times/the times I've partaken in the Casita experiences, they have a great breakfast menu that is served all day, including a la carte items.
Brunch on weekends is from 11am until 3pm, all dishes served with rice, beans, salad or soup. I don't believe they offer a bottomless special at the moment, but you never know what the future holds.
They have several restrooms, including single use gender neutral.
Parking is street or valet pretty much ($7 currently). You can get lucky on the street, though it's metered until 8pm. We did valet the first time I was here and it's super easy, however being a Saturday night we went the street route and found a really good spot across the street not too far from the nearest light. Which I recommend using if you can, because people fly down Hyperion like it's a race track at times.
The entire space is a blend of art, music, culture and community. They are beyond Open to All, safe space and has been an lgbtq+ sanctuary for nearly as long as it's been open. Featuring events by icons like Love Connie, hosting pride season parties and giving back.
Come in for game days, special events (like award shows) and just enjoy yourself. Happy Hour specials available for extra happiness.
C del Campo has gift cards and certificates that make great gifts for the holidays as well as special occasions.
I love the music, the energy and entire atmosphere here. The owners are amazing just like the staff and all the people you might...
Read moreThis review is long overdue.... But goes to show what a fantastic experience I've had here if it's nearly five years later and a smile comes across my face every time I see them post on Facebook and then recall my two visits. Here is where I chose to have my first land meal after cruising for 12 days!! I opted for the carnitas solely based on "simmered garlic and oranges"! What kind of combo it s that? Who puts oranges in a Mexican dish? I could only assume... it would be delicious! Well...my assumption was correct!! Exceptional service accompanied my delicious lunch, again not a surprise. But if I'm going to be transparent... I need to discuss my first meal here... maybe 2015 or 16...and that is why I chose to have my first LA meal here. I drove all day from Phoenix, getting in late my buddy suggested we go here for dinner. We walked in maybe a half hour or so before closing. There was only one older gentleman sitting at a able....possibly the owner? I believe he said we could sit wherever. We opted for the table next to him. He came and joined us. My buddy & him stated to discuss that we wanted to grab dinner. The man said they were about to close. He suggested "I will pick what to order, the food that can be prepared the fastest". We agreed to let him order. He sat with us throughout our meal...it's been nearly a decade so I don't recall conversation just that he was the most delightful fellow. I instantly etched this place in my memory as a fa favorite based on his kindness and thoughtfulness. He could have sent us away... we're about to close, go on. He not only let us stay, He was kind enough to sit with us and make polite conversation. So if you find yourself in Silver Lake... heck if you're near Los Angeles definitely make your way to Casita del Campo; you will be so satisfied that you did!! Delicious food in a in a delightful & colorful setting, served by the friendlies of staff. Casita del Campo you are definitely on the top of the list once I venture out to LA again. Thanks for the wonderful smile-inducing...
Read moreI just moved to Los Angeles from Chicago. Grew up in Texas. Mexican food is my lifeblood. I’m so eager to find my neighborhood Mexican food joint—with classic great like margaritas, chips and salsa and tried and true basics like chicken enchiladas. This place, as charming as it is, is not it.
The salsa is Dollar General brand V8 juice. The guacamole is a downgrade from grocery store Wholly Guacamole. The refried beans were an insult to Fritos bean dip. The rice…disaster (enter pursed lips). The margarita…it was watered down off-brand OJ, at best. Sour, expired orange juice, if I’m being generous.
As much as I love Mexican food, and I’m honestly not that picky—I’ve been to hundreds of joints from Texas to Chicago to Puerto Vallarta and even the least of them have brought me a modicum of joy. Sadly, the food here put the sentiment of Shakespearean tragedies to shame. I wished someone had actually died to justify the despair of the most basic of dishes served here. Open since 1962?! How?
As much as I love the ambience, I’m perpetually perplexed by the Italian meatball soup option. Why not a tortilla soup? Perplexed by the quality service attire mingled with the low quality food and ingredients. The servers were gracious and the bus staff highly attentive, but the overall experience was lacking.
Listen, if you want bland boiled chicken and tomato juice and soured oj and lime passed as a margarita, perhaps this is your place. And truly, the patio is a movie set dream. As for me, I’ll take my chances on Jack in the Box tacos as the superior option.
Good night, Casita del Campo,...
