I passed by this restaurant while growing up in Highland Park on Ave 49 hundreds of times. The mural with the mustached chili pepper is a landmark for me. Well, I finally tried it after so many years. Now I know why they’ve been in business for so long. Their food is delicious. I had a cheese tamale that was not too greasy, topped with a delicious tomato sauce, and the menudo without pata. The menudo was not the best I’ve ever had but it was really good. My husband had green and red chilaquiles and they were delicious. We had their cafe de olla, which is very sweet, just the way I like it! I give it a 4.5 out of 5 because I want to go back and try more items and check the flavor consistency, but overall, highly recommend. Also, they give chips and salsa. So happy the chips were fresh and crispy, but keep in mind the salsa they give for their chips and salsa is very yummy but super hot! Ask for some water if you are...

This is a great restaurant for Mexican dishes. It’s so small but they offer so much variety. I’d give it a 4.5 so I rounded up to 5 stars. I’ll definitely be back.

The portions were good but could have used a tad bit more rice and beans on my combination plate. I do wish they put more cheese on top of the beans. But the beans were excellent and better than most other places I’ve been to.

The hard shell beef tacos were probably the best ones I’ve had and I may just get two of those next time since they were excellent. The chicken enchilada was also good and you can tell the chicken was fresh. I do wish it came with a bit more green sauce.

The salsa and chips were a good appetizer and I’m glad this is included.

There is a small parking lot next door. There is one bathroom outside but it’s clean and...

I am Edword ALZA Daniel MOMPELLER OWNER OF ALZA N SIGN$ & now INK I AM very well aquatinted with owner and have worked with him for a long time My work is to paint signs and murals for the business and to help mentor our youth to reach thier goals and to make community life in NELA a better place in general for all in our society. Trust I make a living off my art and I do not do it for selfish reasons. I am not bragging just leaving this to thank Chicos restaurant and I am grateful for thier help. I hope you enjoy thier place and understand the great service they have and enjoy thier food. Tan Q GOD AND USA MAY WE ALL GROW...
