Hacienda Playa — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I know that the restaurant business is a struggle these days and I feel some guilt in criticizing a long-standing establishment but I felt compelled to comment on a recent visit. We try to come here whenever we’re in town visiting family. Food is normally good and service has been prompt and friendly. 7 of us had dinner here last night. Unfortunately, this meal was very disappointing. The restaurant was basically empty and yet it took an inordinately long amount of time for our drink and food orders to arrive after ordering (and even then they didn’t come out at the same times). Two of us shared the Fajitas Del Rey (combo plate). The tortillas were cold (even after we asked for new ones since the first ones came out well before the meal was delivered to the table) and had the consistency of card board. When the “fresh” tortillas finally made it to the table, the fajitas and side dishes were cold. Overall, the dish was bland, greasy and lacked seasoning. I explained to the server how the dish was unsatisfactory but there was no offer to make it right or to discount the bill. To top it off, I just spent the evening and night with stomach issues. I have been coming here since it opened. There's a bar area when you first walk in with tables and barstools. Inside the restaurant there is a good amount of tables. There's a fish tank inside that the kids like to look at. I had the enchilada and chile relleno combination plate and I was very happy! I usually get a burrito or the enchiladas combo plate and I'm always satisfied. My dinner guests had Cadillac margaritas and they were happy with their drinks. I also ordered French fries. I really like the fries. The fries have an old school deep fried vibe to them. I might just order fries and a coke next time I feel like a quick snack. Went there to see my friends band which is great and made the mistake of ordering the food. One of the worst places I have ever eaten at and not kidding. Overpriced. The plate ordered looked like microwaved leftovers with gloppy cheese all over it! The chicken was stringy and inedible, chips hard and salsa wasn't good. I had to beg for them to make it right. The manager (rude)couldn't care less. Not great, had to chase people down? Should have comped it for me. The place is a dive, I was surprised to see so many people there. Really crowded and messy. This area is an old stomping ground of mine, had to park far away and hike. Very disappointing. Get it together and hire a real chef. I worked in hospitality, never treated customers that way, ever!
