I want to share an unfortunate experience where I felt mistreated in my service, on May 14, 2025.
I was there with a friend. I ordered a hot drink that I hadnât tried before, I canât remember the name, something with cinnamon in it. I went outside to sit with my friend , then after about 5 minutes went back in to check if it was ready or if my name had been called. It wasnât. I overheard the person before me had had a pretty big order and I thought that was the reason why.
My friend and I talked for another couple minutes and I still hadnât heard anything. I went back in and a drink had appeared that resembled mine, but it was next to some kind of iced matcha as if it was a 2-drink order, and I hadnât ordered two drinks so I figured that wasnât my order. I sat back down again for another set of minutes then I just asked verbally âI wanted to see if my order was ready.â
This woman behind the counter said flippantly, âoh itâs right there.â Kinda pointed in that inconvenienced way. And then chuckled and said âit might be kind of coldâ so as to scold me for not getting it in time.
I grabbed it to see how hot it was and she scolds me again as if I must be scatterbrained or something âdonât forget your other one!â I said âthat isnât mine.â She said âwell isnât this your order?â I again clarified that it was not. In light of the fact that it was clearly mixed up with another order and it had initially taken so long, I asked if she could remake it.
She asks rudely âwhy?â Like I was a kid that asked for an extra cookie.
I said âbecause it already took a while and it was mixed up with another order.â
She said with slight disdain, âokay.â And starts making it. I go back outside for a couple minutes to tell my friend I was bothered by the interaction. I went back in again. It was finished. I grabbed it and thanked her. but noticed it still really wasnât hot..and based on how the cinnamon didnât look freshly dispersed, it seemed like she just reheated it a bit and didnât actually remake it. I go and sit back down âŠ
And thereâs a hair in it. I go back in with my friend a taller and more assertive male, yo help me speak to them. he asks them all for a âsolution,â For this.
Another barista, maybe the head, was like, inspecting the coffee stirrer we had fished the hair out with, incredulously, which was also really annoying. She offered to re-make it and bring it out to us and we obliged, but I felt like it was unfair because I was honestly mistreated by this other woman and shouldâve just been refunded.
She brought it out to me and it was clearly freshly made, so I thanked her. Then I saw the original woman come out of the door with her bag in her handâŠclearly she was leaving.
So this girl basically was haphazardly fulfilling orders and mixing them up cause it was the end of her shift and she was ready to go. And, I suppose, she found someone who it wouldnât be any social consequences to blameshift her own mix-up and just be inattentive, dismissive, and really just outright disrespectful to.
Can we get over ourselves already?
Iâm not calling racist, but it is worth noting that Iâm African American, the other individual was not, and i was spoken to like I was stupid, irresponsible, and overall a nuisance to serve. Regardless of whether it was the end of her shift and she was just distracted or not, reasonably sheâd never be that inattentive for her favorite actor or her childhood crushâi.e. someone significant enough that she would want to have basic decency towards lest there were, again, social consequences for not doing so.
I tried calling about it the week directly after but it goes straight to voicemail with no answering machine. So I donât know what thatâs about, but I couldnât get a hold of anybody. But if anyoneâs wondering âwhy nowâ (đ) I just went on with my life until I could get a minute to sit down and type all this out, nor have i ever been informed about a statute of limitations on this issue.
Thanks for reading , own your error and treat people...
Read moreI assume I'm in the minority, and full respect to everyone who sees it differently, but gosh, this place was uncomfortably pretentious-feeling, at least to me. Microscopic tables (why??), a door that leads to someone's apartment (I think?) completely unsigned (so that I walked through it looking for more seating), cramped where there are tables and oddly open elsewhere (weird use of space), treacherous step without sign or bright paint, a labyrinthine path to the tables, loud... Honestly, just nothing good at all about the space. Again, just my opinion. And maybe some of that is architectural and can't be changed, but unfortunately, it still deteriorated the experience for me.
EDIT: As you can see, the shop responded to my review, and FWIW, I think they're 100% correct! I emphasized multiple times in my review that this was just my opinion and that some, maybe even a majority, would likely feel completely the opposite. I also dearly appreciate their attention to my more non-style concerns, like safety and signage. Of course, time will only tell if they act on that feedback, but I have to say that I'm very impressed by their response. I hope those who enjoy their style choices give them lots of business! Oh, and I should also add that the service was...
Read moreI originally left just a 5 star rating, no details, because I was heading out quickly and didnât want to forget to leave something. But after seeing Angelaâs kind response, I had to come back and say more. This place is awesome. Thereâs a few seats out front, but walking through the mirrored hallway into the quiet back room felt like stepping into a secret little workspace. Peaceful, well-designed, and just a great vibe overall.
My drink from JM was great, and you can grab hot food from Convi next door. Their breakfast sandwich was chefâs kiss. I realized as I was writing this that the mirrored room actually leads into Sendo, a beautiful home goods shop. The way these three businesses flow together and support each other makes the whole experience feel even more special.
Angela and the team are lovely, and itâs clear their energy draws in a great crowd. I really enjoyed my time here and highly recommend checking it out if youâre...
