I went in following the bevy of high quality reviews. I'd argue differently. I ordered four items off the menu, none of which were part of their large listing of Americanized 'special' rolls. Seeing so many special rolls on the menu dissuaded me somewhat, but I stuck to ordering a few basic items: a bowl of rice, a spicy tuna hand roll, a spicy yellowtail hand roll, kampachi nigiri, and Spanish mackerel nigiri.
The rice was ok, but it was just a little drier than I would have preferred, but not unsalvageable. The sushi on the other hand was just disappointing. The presentation of the hand rolls was such that the filling was weighted towards the open end, so the last few bites had no fish. The nori wasn't particularly crisp either. The taste was just ok, but it was a spice bomb; there wasn't depth to it.
The nigiri shone a bit better because the kampachi was pretty decent. The yuzu/wasabi on it was nice and the fish was alright. The Spanish mackerel was disappointing, and lacked it's typical umami flavor. It's especially disappointing because Spanish mackerel is one of my favorite fish.
The location was alright, parking was acceptable. The restaurant was clean. The thing which stood out the most was the service. The wait staff was very attentive, and quick. This might be due to the fact the place was half empty on a Friday night. Next time, if I want sushi in the area I'll go to Crave or Nomura. Kinza only gets two stars because the wait staff was good; the food was disappointing in every aspect. Perhaps it's better if you like western style specialty rolls; I couldn't say, I...
Read moreI walked in with my laptop bag and asked if there were outlets in the store so I could eat while I work. The woman at the front looked around nervously and scoffed and said “no,” and walked off, without greeting me or asking if I wanted a place to sit. Have you ever seen an unfortunate scene with an obviously-homeless person walking into a eatery and the shopkeeper nervously says “oh we don’t have this we don’t have that we don’t have outlets we don’t have anything” to make the person leave? It was exactly like that. Quite frankly homeless or not nobody should be treated like that, but I know I’m a clean honest person, I’m certainly not a second class citizen, and so I didn’t understand what was so perturbing about wanting to have sushi and do my remote work at a local place outside of the house. Oh right, I am Black. Perhaps that messes with the aesthetic of the place, so important that it is just off the highway in the valley but apparently I was tainting it with the heinous crime of asking about if they had outlets.
I was deeply humiliated and enraged by this behavior. Of course, if I was to yell or become irate that would be all the evidence in the world to be used against me. I don’t care how good the food is, this treatment is disgusting. In particular, that woman was very hostile from the word “go” for no good reason and establishments that discriminate like that deserve no...
Read moreThe food was awful! The service was just as bad ! Im 59 and have been eating sushi since I was a very young child of 3. Never in my life have I been more disgusted with any restraunt. I have always ordered the eel which is not served raw as it is poisonous to humans if served uncooked . I ordered my eel and they brought me a " hand roll" which ive not heard of before,. I immediately saw the shredded eel was uncooked and told my bf I wasn't going to eat it. He , after an extremely long wait and time of being absolutely ignored by ANY STAFF WORLING BEHIND THE COUNTER, ordered what I thought would be my traditional cooked eel on rice with that yummy sauce boy was I disappointed and disgusted when the guy brought me plain eat eel! As I bit down I inherently got a feeling if "no dont eat this " i put it down and bite literally had to hold back vomiting when I saw there was intestines and some long black intestinal organ left behind. I to ths day have not been able to eat sushi of any kind. Then my bf told me there was a live roach cruising around his plate he killed it but didn't ell as I was visibly upset. The staff made me wait well beyond the time they delivered the food and after several requests of when my sake was coming. Thats all I had . By the time it ca.e we were ready to leave. I hope this reaches the owner and they get it together someone will end up very...
